Job Description

General Statement of Duties Closing Date: This position closes on Monday, April 20, 2026. Works primarily in the community providing support to individuals experiencing or having recently experienced a behavioral health crisis. Provides a variety of community-based interventions including crisis support, de-escalation, treatment and/or prevention services to individuals with a wide range of psychiatric, emotional, relational, substance use or developmental presentations within a mobile crisis response team. Provides services to anyone in need within the CSB catchment area, with the primary focus being on individuals age 60 and up. Essential Duties Provides immediate, community-based behavioral health support in the community to de-escalate crises, assess needs, and connect individuals with follow-up care or other appropriate resources. Responds within the community as a member of a behavioral health only mobile crisis team with another clinical staff and/or certified peer recovery specialist to less emergent situations requiring follow-up, support, linkage to resources, and engagement in services. May also respond within the community as a member of a co-response team with law enforcement to more emergent situations and to 911 emergency calls. Performs risk assessments to evaluate danger to self or others, develops crisis plans, coordinates with other community providers, and links to appropriate needed resources. Possesses the ability to assess significant mental health and substance use problems and develop and implement crisis stabilization plans to help individuals remain in the community when appropriate. Demonstrates a thorough understanding of legal and local ECO and TDO procedures and practices. Demonstrates knowledge of mental health diagnoses and knowledge of interventions and psychotherapy. Exhibits the ability to remain calm, resourceful, and make sound decisions under pressure. Is adept at working both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of other with other professionals and community partners. Adheres to basic ethics appropriate for a professional helping relationship; knowledge of mental health diagnoses, assessment, and/or psychological and educational testing; some knowledge of consultation program; considerable knowledge of psychosocial history development; very good interviewing and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; demonstrated ability to act with good judgment. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a two (2)-year master's degree in clinical social work, psychology or a directly related field plus one (1) year of experience in a mental health setting [for a one-year degree, one(1) additional year of experience or an internship is required to replace the second year of formal training. Additional Information A professional license or license eligible is strongly preferred. Pre-Screening certification preferred. This position requires provision of services in person in the community. Must be available to work evenings, nights, and weekends. Valid Virginia driver's license, TB Screening, and Child Protective Services Record Check required, upon hire. A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee. Must hold or be qualified to work toward licensure or accreditation for the appropriate discipline. Reimbursement for license and certifications. Position is part of a Career Development Program where individuals are able to advance within current position. Expected salary commensurate with experience.
