Develop and write formulations and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Develop and maintain relationships with prescribers' offices for compounded medications. Job Responsibilities * Answer questions and provide information to pharmacy patients and caregivers on compound ingredients, dosage, storage of medication(s), use of medication(s), pertinent interactions, and other information relating to compounded medication(s). * Provide information to patients regarding readiness of compounds, mailing policies and procedures, and billing and insurance information. * Receive oral, electronic, or written prescriptions, orders, or refill requests, verifying that information is complete and accurate. * Mix pharmaceutical preparations, fill prescriptions to be dispensed, and appropriately label containers. * Establish and maintain patient profiles and records, enter prescriptions accurately, and bill insurance appropriately. * Assist the pharmacy team in providing customer service. * Assist in maintaining pharmacy inventory, including but not limited to labels, medications, compounding ingredients, and supplies. * Clean and help maintain equipment, work areas, and glassware according to SOPs. * Maintain proper storage and security conditions for medications, ingredients, and finished compounds. * Effectively compound the following (but not limited to): injections and infusions, irrigations for internal body cavities, ophthalmic dosage forms, aqueous preparations for pulmonary inhalation, baths and soaks for live organs and tissues, and implants. * Follow established SOPs, assist with formulation development of new SOPs and data entry, and demonstrate competence in mathematical calculations. * Effectively communicate with prescribers and other healthcare professionals, conveying appropriate information to designated staff for proper compounding of medications. * Develop and maintain an understanding of major compounding topics, including but not limited to: infusions, nutritional support, bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), veterinary medicine, pain management, and mitochondrial disorders. * Attend external professional meetings and interact professionally with patients and staff.
