Postdoctoral for Dr. Tesfaigzi Laboratory within the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Department of Medicine at Mass General Brigham, Harvard Medical School. Job Summary To apply, please submit your CV and a letter of interest to Dr. Yohannes Tesfaigzi, A postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Tesfaigzi Laboratory within the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Department of Medicine at Mass General Brigham, Harvard Medical School. The candidate should have a strong background in molecular biology and/or immunology to join our NIH-funded research group to study the innate immune mechanisms of the airway epithelium. In this position, the highly motivated Research Fellow will be engaged in multiple projects related to disease mechanisms of chronic lung diseases, including COPD, asthma, and IPF, with specific attention to identifying the genetic loci and genes that initiate chronic inflammation in the lung. The primary responsibilities of the research fellow will be to conduct experimental research on the role of environmental pollutants in exacerbating cigarette smoke-induced detrimental effects on lung function. These studies will involve using primary and immortalized cells, wild-type and transgenic animal models, and molecular biology and protein biochemistry techniques. The successful candidate will work primarily in the following specific areas: 1. Conduct independent research by designing and executing cell and molecular biology studies, performing fundamental scientific tasks and selecting methodologies independently. 2. Set up new cellular essays, analyzing human samples and complex data sets, and oversee research at different stages of maturity. 3. Improving on animal models of chronic lung diseases, cell lineage tracing. 4. Assists with the resolution of problems and documents/reports results. 5. Analyze, interpret, and continuously summarize findings as succinct reports. 6. Write and review animal protocols. 7. Collaborate with other scientists and investigators in same or other labs as necessary 8. Providing advice and assistance with experiments and in areas of expertise. 9. Manage lab equipment. 10. Reports results in the form of open literature publications and presentations at scientific meetings. 11. Will be encouraged to write proposals for research funding. 12. Develops scientific network through societies. May participate in special committees as appropriate. 13. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications To apply, please submit your CV and a letter of interest to Dr. Yohannes Tesfaigzi, Requirements: MD or PhD in Biochemistry or Biological sciences, with experience in biomedical research. Expertise in gene targeting, protein analyses using latest molecular biology and immunology techniques; experience with in vivo CRISPR and single cell RNA sequencing is required. * Experience in molecular biology techniques, such as Western blot, immunostaining, immunoprecipitation are required * Experience with mouse models of diseases * Ready to develop and conduct assays and tests that answer specific scientific questions * Knowledge and experience in virology and flow cytometry is a plus * Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with the study participants * Good oral and written communication skills; writing manuscripts for publications * Knowledge of clinical research protocols * High degree of computer literacy; skilled with statistical analyses, basic knowledge of analyzing bulk RNA sequencing data * Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks The Pulmonary and Critical Care Division is committed to hiring, advancement and fair treatment of all individuals, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regarding to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, protected veteran status, or any other protected status as designated by federal, state or local law.
