Job Description

General Responsibilities: Consults with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and members of the pupil personnel services team related to learning strategies, social-emotional supports, and behavior strategies, in order for students to find success in their educational experience. Collaborates with teachers, related service providers and support staff in the collection of student data Assists teachers and building-level teams in the development of appropriate academic and behavior interventions to meet student needs within a multi-tiered system of supports. Determines appropriate evaluative tools based on each students' referral questions, and completes all required components of thorough psycho-educational evaluations for initial and triennial re-evaluations Collaborates with the evaluation team in making recommendations for students classified through the Committee on Special Education. Completes necessary documentation required in students' Individualized Education Programs and evaluation reports as part of the special education process. Clearly and effectively communicates results of evaluations and recommendations to parents, necessary staff, and students, when appropriate, including the presentation of evaluative information as a member of the Committee on Special Education. Maintains appropriate records and reports of contacts with students, parents, school conferences, agency contacts, etc. Supervises the use and confidentiality of student records for the protection of the individuals involved. Collaborates with the pupil personnel services team in meeting the goals of the district's Counseling Plan, including the oversight of universal screening data for students' social-emotional needs. Provides counseling for individuals and small groups as the need arises, including the provision of mandated counseling to students with disabilities. Initiates and plans in-service programs for staff and community members Serves as a resource person in various areas of the curriculum Attends meetings as required (i.e. faculty meetings, Committee on Special Education, etc.). Serves on established committees either on a voluntary basis or by assignment. Submits annual budget requests to the Director of Special Education. Conducts and records an annual inventory of equipment and supplies Submits an annual report on activities to the Director of Special Education Strives to keep informed of the current educational trends and practices in this area. Accepts and performs duties and responsibilities not ordinarily associated with the position, in cases of emergency or when unusual or unpredictable circumstances arise.
