About the SchoolGeorgetown Day School opened its doors in 1945 as the first integrated school in a segregated city. GDS Auxiliary Programs Team Members teach new skills and provide tools that enable children to develop into individuals who strive to learn and understand, try new things, and care for others.About the Summer Classroom Assistants, Interns, and Extended Day StaffGDS Summer Program seeks to hire Classroom Assistants, Interns, and Extended Day Staff to support enrichment classes that will challenge our students academically, physically, and artistically. We seek individuals with experience teaching children ages 4-18, as well as professional expertise in such areas as science, math, visual or performing arts, language arts, computer programming, technology and engineering, and more. Team members must be enthusiastic and knowledgeable about ways to support learning through guided activities. The ability to provide rich, mission-aligned content and creative pedagogy, to establish authentic relationships, to work collaboratively with colleagues, and to place children's interests and experiences at the heart of the classroom are essential components of the job. This position reports to the GDS Summer Programs Director.Location: on-campus in Washington, DCDates: Varies from mid-June through mid-AugustStatus: Part-time, temporary, hourlyHours: Camp hours are 8:30 a.m. - 3:45 p.m., extended day programming ends at 6 p.m. and multiple shifts available.Note: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.Responsibilities for Classroom Assistants, Interns, and Extended Day Staff:Co-lead activities planned for the dayLead small groups in activities planned and coordinated by the Lead Instructor(s) and or the GDS Camp Office as assignedCollaborate with co-teachers as neededSupport classroom management, routines, and safetyPerform daily tasks to support the camp program as a whole such as taking attendance, delivering snacks, taking pictures, participating in morning and afternoon carpool, helping campers get to their classrooms, and other duties as assigned.Participate in all aspects of the camp day from carpool arrival, snack, field trips, lunch, recess, various activities, and dismissal.Responsibilities for All Summer StaffEnthusiastically engage studentsBe a welcoming face to all familiesEnsure that students are learning in creative, hands-on, interactive, and age-appropriate waysIncorporate opportunities for students to collaborate, problem-solve and createArrive promptly and prepared for classSupervise activelyOther duties as assignedAdditional responsibilities vary by role and camp.The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:Previous experience working with kids preferredMust enjoy working with childrenAct as a role model to childrenThink on one's feetWork collaboratively and flexiblyBe professional and maintain proper boundaries with childrenPay: $17.95 to $32/hour, varies and dependent upon role and experience.Americans with Disability SpecificationsPhysical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
