Summary of position: The Health and Nutrition Specialist coordinates the efficient implementation of the Health and Nutrition service areas of the Head Start program. Job Responsibilities (see attached job description for additional details): Establish a workable and effective medical, dental and nutrition program in accordance with health guidelines for Head Start programs. Keep complete medical and dental records on each child which include past history and current information of medical significance. Plan health programs for staff and parents in growth and development, safety and accident prevention, family relationships and other appropriate subjects. Hold individual conferences with parents and staff about related concerns whenever needed. Make home visits and follow-up visits to seek and disperse information on the health status of the child and on the overall program. Qualifications: Current license to practice as a registered professional nurse as issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nurse Examiners. Comprehensive knowledge of the practice of public health nursing and school nursing. Knowledge of the growth and development processes of the young child. Knowledge of services performed by other Health and Welfare agencies in the community.
