This strategically important position offers a unique leadership trajectory with a clear pathway to permanent program directorship.Leadership Pathway & Career DevelopmentThis position is structured with intentional leadership development in mind, with a flexible timeline based on your experience level:Initial Phase: Full integration into clinical operations and program planningInterim Director Role: Assumption of Interim Director responsibilities with protected time for program administrationTransition to Permanent Leadership: Following a comprehensive collaborative evaluation period, successful candidates will be considered for appointment as Permanent Heart Failure Program DirectorThe duration of each phase will be tailored to your individual background and expertise. Candidates with extensive advanced heart failure leadership experience may progress more rapidly through the evaluation period, while those earlier in their career will benefit from a more structured developmental timeline. Throughout your initial tenure, we will work closely with you to assess engagement, programmatic contributions, and strategic fit for this permanent leadership position. This evaluation process is designed to ensure mutual alignment and position both you and the program for long-term success.Duties and Responsibilities:Clinical ExcellenceProvide expert consultative co-management of patients with cardiogenic shock in the ICU setting, supported by a dedicated inpatient Heart Failure Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)Deliver comprehensive care across the full spectrum of advanced heart failure and mechanical circulatory supportLeadership & Program DevelopmentStrategic Program Development: Build and expand the Heart Failure Program infrastructure and clinical capabilitiesMultidisciplinary Team Leadership: Develop and lead an innovative, multidisciplinary Shock Team in collaboration with Division leadershipFaculty & Personnel Recruitment: Identify, recruit, and mentor exceptional clinical and research talentCapacity Expansion: Drive strategic growth initiatives to expand program reach and impactAdministrative OversightDedicate protected time to program administration, strategic planning, and quality improvement initiativesPerform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.Minimum Qualifications Board certification or Board eligibility in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology Substantial clinical experience in advanced heart failure management Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated expertise in Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Proficiency with short-term and long-term mechanical circulatory support strategies, including ventricular assist devices (VADs) Proven track record in program development and multidisciplinary team leadership Unique Opportunities Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work alongside an exceptional team of physicians, surgeons, advanced practice providers, and clinical staff dedicated to delivering outstanding patient careThe University of Illinois System is an equal opportunity employer, including but not limited to disability and/or veteran status, and complies with all applicable state and federal employment mandates.
