About DC ScholarsDC Scholars Public Charter School was founded in 2012 and serves approximately 500 students in Preschool - 8th grade. DC Scholars develops life-long scholars who have the academic knowledge and skills, individual passions, and community-mindedness necessary to succeed in and contribute to an ever-changing world. We have cultivated a mission-oriented and collaborative team. Our staff is enthusiastic about constantly setting and reaching a high bar for students. The Position: DC Scholars Before/After School Program is looking for part-time Before Care/After Care Teachers. We seek quality leaders who are dedicated and committed to enriching our youth. Part-Time Hours:Monday - Friday 6:15 AM - 8:00 AM Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 3:00 PM - 5:45 PMFriday - 12:00 PM - 5:45 PMKey Responsibilities: Provide mentorship and coaching to scholars in Grade Levels Preschool to 8th gradeUse developmentally appropriate strategies for behavior management and ensure and maintain a safe environmentSupervise students in assigned classrooms, hallways, and other common areas to ensure /safety, proper conduct, and individual attentionAttendance at occasional special events (Joyful Market, Parent Nights, events after school), where additional hours worked will be paid at an hourly rate. Act as a positive role model to scholars and fellow team members at DC Scholars Public Charter SchoolMaintain open and frequent communication with the scholar's teacher and parents on the scholar's academic, behavioral, and socio-emotional strengths and areas of growthStrong organization and able to meet deadlines consistentlyConveys information effectively and efficiently using verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills. All written materials are accurate, clear, and grammatically correct.Ability to work well both independently and in a team Reliable, on time for duties for after care shifts and meetingAdaptability & flexibility.Willingness to work outdoors with youthTracks student attendance dailyCompletes and submits incident reports as neededBackground, Experience, and Desired SkillsHigh School diploma 1 year of teaching experience and/or 1 year of experience working in a childcare/school setting Must be able to pass a criminal background check and get a TB testAbility to identify, resolve and communicate problems and solutions in a timely and respectful mannerAbility to exhibit objectivity and openness to others' views, give and welcome feedbackAbility to follow instructions and respond to supervisor direction and take responsibility for your own actionsAbility to prioritize and plan work activities and use time efficientlyAbility to maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with student, staff, and/or parent information Ability to meet challenges and will go above and beyondAbility to follow policies and proceduresMindsetPassion for educational equity and a commitment to the mission and vision of DC Scholars and valuesHigh standards for self and for othersDemonstrates humility, seeks growth opportunities and feedback from colleaguesThe RewardsOpportunity to work in an exciting and enjoyable environment that fosters strong family relationships and community partnershipsProfessional connections with other expert educators who share your commitment to doing whatever it takes to close the achievement gapContinuous support from DC Scholars Community Schools teamThis position could lead to additional pathways (building substitute) to support the school which would be determined after an employee's Beginning of Year evaluation (90-days into their role). CompensationThe hourly rate for this role is $20.00 in alignment with the DC Scholars compensation philosophy.
