Overview Sr. Energy Storage NERC Compliance Manager - Grid Infrastructure Locations: FULLY REMOTE (Anywhere in the USA) This opportunity is with a trailblazing BESS (Battery Energy Storage) company backed by top-tier private equity, leading the charge in utility-scale energy storage development, execution, and operations. The company has a rapidly expanding national footprint and a double-digit GW portfolio, including one of the largest fleets of grid-connected, standalone battery storage assets in the country. Assets strengthen the grid by storing excess energy and delivering it during peak demand, storms, or outages, providing critical grid services and supporting a more reliable, resilient grid infrastructure. The Sr. Energy Storage NERC Compliance Manager will develop and grow a first-class scalable NERC corporate and operational compliance program. This role works closely with Asset Management and Legal to drive a holistic approach to compliance management across a utility-scale energy storage portfolio. It serves as the primary subject-matter expert on NERC standards, guiding implementation, monitoring, and cross-functional engagement to maintain a best-in-class compliance framework. Responsibilities Serve as SME on NERC Reliability Standards; provide internal guidance and training on NERC compliance. Lead implementation and continuous improvement of the NERC compliance program. Identify and manage compliance risks; design and oversee controls. Coordinate with third-party contractors supporting NERC compliance. Conduct gap analyses, report findings, and maintain documentation. Manage audit responses, investigations, and mitigation plans. Monitor evolving NERC and Regional Standards to ensure internal readiness. Support internal alignment with ISO/RTO compliance requirements. Contribute to industry standards development and voting processes. Qualifications 6-10+ years of corporate and operational NERC compliance experience for grid infrastructure, BESS, energy storage, or utility-scale renewable energy electric transmission systems. Corporate asset-based operational NERC compliance experience with utility-scale solar, wind, battery storage, or energy storage projects. Experience with RSAWs, audit processes, and compliance monitoring/reporting tools. Strong track record developing and implementing NERC compliance programs that address NERC, FERC, PUCs and other Reliability organization standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Well-versed in compliance resolution and root-cause analysis for compliance issues. Experience with ISO/RTO standards, operating policies, procedures, and guidelines (preferred). Understanding of national energy power markets (PJM, ERCOT, SPP, MISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, WECC) (beneficial). Candidates may have held Manager or Lead titles such as: Manager of NERC Compliance, Sr. Regulatory Manager, NERC, Lead NERC Compliance Specialist, Sr. NERC Compliance Advisor, NERC Compliance Lead/Lead, Compliance Engineer, Sr. NERC Compliance Manager.
