Description For Purpose Law Group (FPLG) serves nonprofits and purpose-driven organizations that are doing meaningful work and want counsel that helps them do it with clarity, confidence, and strong compliance. We're growing and looking for experienced attorneys with nonprofit experience (preferred) and a solid transactional foundation to join our network of Of Counsel attorneys. This role is a strong match for an attorney who enjoys being a steady, practical advisor, someone who can translate complex legal issues into clear options, draft with precision, and support mission-driven leaders as they navigate growth. This is a remote position. We are seeking attorneys actively licensed and barred in California, Texas, Illinois, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, and New York, with California strongly preferred. The Work As Of Counsel, you'll work with nonprofit and purpose-driven clients on the legal issues that matter most to their stability and success. Your work will be primarily advisory and transactional. You may be helping a founder set up a clean governance structure and compliance plan, counseling a board through a complex decision, or reviewing a key contract that protects the organization while keeping momentum high. On a practical level, the role may include drafting and reviewing contracts; preparing and revising formation and governance documents (including bylaws, policies, and core corporate records); advising on state and federal compliance matters; and supporting exemption-related work where appropriate. You may also assist with reviewing matters that involve state"‘specific nonprofit regulations within your licensed jurisdiction, helping ensure our clients remain compliant with the legal requirements that apply to their organizations. Internally, you'll partner with our legal team to ensure matters are well"‘documented, clearly structured, and moving forward with consistent strategy. Engagement Structure This role is structured as an Of Counsel relationship with the firm and is not a full"‘time employee position. Work is assigned on an as"‘needed basis depending on client matters and jurisdictional needs. Many Of Counsel attorneys assist with matters involving state"‘specific nonprofit regulations, provide jurisdictional review, or offer subject"‘matter insight related to their licensed state or their primary practice area. Depending on their experience, they may also contribute guidance in specialized areas of nonprofit law where they have developed deeper expertise. Compensation is provided on an hourly contract basis under a standing engagement agreement with the firm, with separate hourly rates for legal work and administrative time. Requirements Qualifications J.D. from an accredited law school. Active license to practice law and in good standing in California, Texas, Illinois, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, or New York (California strongly preferred). At least 3-6 years of legal experience, ideally including nonprofit governance, regulatory compliance, transactional drafting, or business law. Experience advising nonprofit organizations, social enterprises, or mission"‘driven businesses. Strong commitment to mission"‘driven organizations and the social impact sector. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative remote team environment. Strong organizational and project management skills. Comfortable using legal technology, case management systems, and digital collaboration tools. Expectations for Of Counsel Attorneys at FPLG Of Counsel attorneys working with FPLG are trusted professionals who provide reliable legal guidance and collaborate with the firm to ensure our client matters remain legally sound and compliant within the relevant jurisdictions. In This Role You Will Provide jurisdiction"‘specific legal guidance on nonprofit laws and regulatory requirements within your licensed state. Review legal strategies, documents, and compliance approaches for alignment with applicable state laws. Provide clear legal analysis and practical recommendations that help matters move forward efficiently. Draft or review contracts, governance documents, formation materials, and other nonprofit transactional work when appropriate. Maintain clear documentation and written guidance to support collaboration with the internal legal team. Communicate promptly with the firm's legal team regarding questions, timelines, or additional information needed. Collaborate with FPLG attorneys to support a consistent and high"‘quality client experience. Complete assigned work in a timely and professional manner consistent with an Of Counsel relationship.
