Job SummaryJob Summary: The Assurance Senior Manager is responsible for developing suggestions to improve client internal controls and accounting procedures, advising on economic and regulatory risks in a specific industry field of expertise, identifying financial and non-financial performance measures, formulating and communicating the audit plan, addressing GAAP and GAAS questions, and composing technical consultation memos on engagements related to GAAP/GAAS this role, the Assurance Senior Manager marketing, networking, and business development within an area of expertise while maintaining key client relationships and acting as the primary client contact for complex questions. The role is part of the offices/region Assurance leadership team and involves direct supervision, problem resolution, and delegation during the audit process.Job DutiesControl EnvironmentApplies advanced knowledge of the factors influencing the effectiveness or mitigation of risks in policies and procedures, and the supervisory controls within the control environmentValidates and assesses the effectiveness of internal control over financial reportingIdentifies and communicates recommendations to management and the audit committee to improve client internal controls and accounting proceduresIdentifies audit functions to delegate to the auditor in charge as appropriateSupervises the work of the audit team and reviews workpapers and conclusions, preferably onsite during audit field workProvides on-the-job training to engagement staff during audit field workGAAPApplies advanced knowledge of GAAP principles and documents understanding and application of these principles in client transactionsIdentifies and discusses the impact of new accounting pronouncements with clientsPresents and discusses alternative applications of GAAP and arguments for/against such alternativesDrafts complex financial statements and related footnote disclosures and communicates them effectively to the clientIdentifies complex accounting issues and documents resolutions, seeking guidance from technical experts as neededSEC and PCAOBApplies advanced knowledge of SEC regulations and PCAOB guidelines, documenting and communicating their applicationReviews SEC filings (MD&A, financial statements, disclosures) for form, content, completeness, and accuracy; ensures quarterly reviews are properly performedReviews required communications to the client and Audit Committee for completeness, accuracy, and complianceReviews Section 404 internal control audit work for completeness and complianceEnsures compliance with engagement independence requirementsGAASApplies advanced knowledge of professional standards (GAAS and PCAOB) and documents understanding and application on engagementsProvides guidance to others and affirms conclusions reached by othersCommunicates matters required to be reported to the Audit Committee/Board and those charged with governanceApplies efficiency tools such as statistical sampling and CAATSMethodologyApplies advanced knowledge of BDO standards, policies, and technology guiding delivery of quality servicesConducts detailed reviews to ensure audits are completed in accordance with assurance manual standardsPrepares or reviews required management and audit committee communications for timeliness and completenessRecommends appropriate outcomes to critical issuesInitiates and prepares client acceptance/retention procedures where appropriatePlans the audit process and oversees execution of procedures with quality, efficiency, and completeness under deadlinesFollows proper BDO methodology including archiving proceduresConsiders Sarbanes-Oxley requirements in planning 404 and financial statement audits for public clientsResearchApplies methodology to obtain information from authoritative sources and draw conclusions on target issuesDefines research methodology and completes projects in a timely mannerUtilizes appropriate research tools and documents conclusionsPrepares memo supporting research conclusions and consults with others as appropriatePresents issues to RTD or concurring reviewer effectivelyOther duties as requiredSupervisory ResponsibilitiesSets the tone for teamwork and supports others in meeting commitments to the team and clientsSupervises managers, associates, and senior associates across projectsReviews work and provides commentsActs as a Career Advisor to associates and senior associatesSchedules and manages workload of associates and senior associatesProvides verbal and written performance feedbackCoaches managers, seniors, and associates for on-the-job learningQualifications, Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesEducationBachelor's degree required; Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics preferredMaster's degree in Accountancy preferredExperienceSeven or more years of audit experience and/or related professional services experience requiredSignificant prior supervisory experience requiredIndustry expertise in one or more assurance specialties preferredLicense/CertificationsActive licensed US CPA or recognized active international equivalent;
