Job Description:The Early Childhood Director is responsible for providing instructional leadership, managing and leading the staff, and overseeing the special education process at the preschool level. Also responsible for promoting the educational mission and the overall well-being of the preschool students while creating a positive preschool culture and strong communication with families and the community,Essential Functions and Responsibilities:The Director must possess a demonstrated ability to lead, energize, and effectively delegate tasks among interdisciplinary work teams, including other administrative personnel.Provide instructional leadership and administration to include monitoring and supporting instructional activities, providing staff development, implementing curriculum aligned with standards, and evaluating the instructional practices of early childhood teachers and related service providers.Responsible for financial planning, preparation, justification and management of the preschool program budget. Make data-driven recommendations to the Special Education Director regarding the programmatic needs of the preschool.Responsible for writing and submitting the 262 grant on a yearly basis to secure funds for the preschool program. Identify, collaborate and write additional grants to support funding for the preschool through the Department of Early Education and Care or other agencies.Responsible for compliance, procedural organization, procedural safeguards, etc. as set forth by federal and state disabilities laws and regulations for all screening activities including child find, identification requirements, referral, preschool screening, outreach, follow up and parent intake.Oversee and facilitate the special education process for the preschool: Ensure that processes and procedures are in compliance with special education regulations and laws. Chair all preschool evaluation team meetings, parent meetings, transition meetings and parent training as appropriate.Work with the Superintendent to establish fees for preschool tuition, recommend program needs or ideas and justify other expenditures. Prepare all fiscal and program reports required by the School Committee and Administration.Responsible for the administration and supervision of all regular education and special education services/programs provided at preschool. Develop master schedule and oversee/coordinate scheduling processes. Oversee staff and student classroom assignments. Oversee case management to ensure service compliance with IEP's.Coordinate with all Early Intervention agencies to coordinate upcoming evaluations and to ensure a smooth transition from El to preschool special education programming, while adhering to compliance with regulation timelines.Oversee processes to hire new staff to include recruiting, screening, interviewing and hiring. Orient new faculty to school policies and practices.Monitor licensing and program policy implementation. Collect data and submit for DESE Indicator areas related to preschool.Provide program improvement leadership in collaboration and coordination with the Director of Special Education. Coordinate with the Special Education Director/Superintendent regarding vision and program models and other leadership decisions. Works closely with other special education coordinators, Director of Technology and other Administrators.Supervise the maintenance of all facilities and equipment, identify and plan for facility needs, building safety and emergencies and communicate building needs to your supervisor. Ensure staff are able to implement emergency protocols.Oversee and manage preschool transportation needs.Monitor and maintain a consistent standard for student behavior to include providing activities to involve students in all aspects of early childhood school life, monitoring attendance, and maintaining guidance and health services for the children.Develop collaborative relationships with parents and families and support the development of a parent leader group. Support teachers and related service providers in establishing consistent and positive communication with families. Coordinate community activities and involvement.Perform any other related duties as required or assigned by the Special Education Director and/or Superintendent.Qualifications: -This position requires a Master's Degree in education, child development, or a related field. Massachusetts EEC Director I or Director II Certification or equivalent (if licensed in another state) is also required. -Special Education License is preferred-This position also requires at least 2-5 years of experience as a director in an educational environment.-Valid Massachusetts License as a Principal/Assistant Principal for Prek-8, Supervisor/Director for Early Childhood or Special Education Director-Expertise in early childhood learning and development and ability to apply that knowledge in a preschool setting-In depth knowledge of how to serve the needs of preschool children with various disabilities-Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with all stakeholders.215 Day Contract
