Job Description

University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy is looking for a part-time cook. The cook plans, prepares, and cooks food items to ensure the highest quality service and experience for customers. They help keep the kitchen organized and running efficiently. They ensure proper food handling, sanitation and following food storage procedures. This is a part-time, hourly, academic-year position working the following five-day schedule (25 hours/week): Monday through Friday 7:00am to 12:30pm. The University is located in St. Louis in the middle of the Washington University medical campus near public transportation.Duties and ResponsibilitiesFollow recipes, including measuring, weighing and mixing ingredientsBake, roast, grill, steam and boil meats, vegetables, fish, poultry and other foodsWash, peel, cut, and seed fruits and vegetables to prepare for consumptionEnsure ingredients and final products are freshPortion, arrange, garnish and present final dishesServe food to guestsMaintain a clean and safe work area, including handling utensils, equipment and dishesHandle and store ingredients and foodMaintain food safety and sanitation standardsClean and sanitize work areas, equipment and utensilsExecute opening and closing proceduresSet up workstations with required ingredients and equipmentCheck the quality and freshness of ingredientsMonitor station inventory levelsAccommodate guests' special requestsOperate kitchen equipment such as broilers, ovens, grills and fryersSubstitute for or assist other cooks as neededOther duties as assigned by ManagementQualificationsHigh School diploma or GED. Significant cooking experience can be considered in lieu of education.One (1) year of experience as a cookPrevious experience in foodservice/food preparationAbility to use various knives for trimming, prepping, or chopping meats and vegetables necessary for recipes.Be innovative, creative and focused on qualityBe customer-service drivenExperience working in an institutional and/or contracted food service operation or similar industry preferredProven ability to manage and maintain multiple priorities and multitaskManage details for multiple orders accurately and efficientlyWork effectively in a typical food service environment which may include loud noises, fast paced, large numbers of people, high volume activity, etc.Must have an understanding of Food Safety and Sanitation as it applies to preparing foods, serving foods and keeping foods safe for consumptionIf this sounds like the job for you here is information on how to apply: Follow the simple steps to apply online.
