Job Description

The Project Engineering Specialist manages large or complex engineering projects and has overall responsibility for the execution of assigned projects. Areas of responsibility include safety, operations interface, maintenance interface, project budgets, and schedules. Directs and coordinates preparation of the Capital Appropriation Request documents and oversees assigned projects from approval through project closeout.Duties & Responsibilities:Identifies project execution alternatives that best fit the needs of the business and operations and fit within the overall Afton capital plan and corporate direction.Directs technical and administrative efforts required to accomplish project requirements in accordance with project scope, design concept, design criteria, standard operating procedures, safety, schedule and budget.Ensures that Safety is the project’s number 1 priority and that the project safety plan is developed and communicated.Alignment of the engineering team with project deliverables and goals. Works very closely with the Project Leadership Team to ensure that the project team stays aligned around these deliverables and goals.Establishes the project team communication structure; including electronic tools, meetings, decision criteria, and roles and responsibilities for each team member.Establishes the SAP Work Breakdown Structure for the project for effective project cost flow, management, and final asset settlement.Accountable for the development of the engineering, procurement, and construction strategies that reflect industry best practices.Reports on project status to Afton key stakeholders via written reports and face-to-face reviews.Ensures that detailed project cost and schedule controls are established to track progress on project commitments and progress reports are communicated to the Project Leadership Team.Works with the Project Leadership Team to establish the approved scope change procedure for the project and sees that it is strictly adhered to after project approval.Ensures that the project start-up team is organized during the front end process and roles and responsibilities are clearly identified. Ensures that the start-up plan is developed as part of the detail design engineering process.Accountable for interfacing with HSE&S department to obtain necessary permitting approvals.Develops and maintains professional working relationships with executive management, construction management, HSE&S, discipline engineers, sales and marketing, project controls, finance, contract administration, purchasing, and the business.Ensure project closure and final asset settlement.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications:Proactive leadership and team building skills.Excellent organization skills.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Education: Bachelor’s Degree in EngineeringWork Experience: Minimum of 10 years of project management experienceIndustry Experience: Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in petrochemical plantTravel: Some travel (domestic and international) may be necessary - up to 20%Working at AftonWho We Are"¯- We are a diverse, global family of individuals, who share a passion for developing innovative solutions."¯We build our professional relationships on respect, integrity and a commitment to safety and quality.
