The Over the Road Truck Driver is responsible for operating heavy trucks or tractor-trailers to deliver products or materials to destinations in a safe and timely manner. The role requires following all road safety regulations, maintaining vehicle cleanliness and functionality, and ensuring accurate delivery. This is an Interstate driving position with most of the focus on deliveries and pickups in the Northeast. Currently, trips are scheduled so a typical week will consist of a Sunday mid-afternoon start with 1-2 trips scheduled, allowing for 1 or 2 days at home during the week depending on trips assigned with the final trip of the week generally ending Friday afternoon/evening. Operate a commercial truck to transport products or materials, ensuring it reaches the destination within the specified time framePlan and follow the most efficient routes, considering road conditions, weather, and other factors to minimize delays and optimize fuel consumptionMaintain accurate logs of hours worked, cargo, and deliveries, and ensure compliance with all legal regulations, including safety, weight limits, and hours-of-service regulations (use of ELD is required)Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the truck is in good working condition, including checking tires, brakes, lights, and other essential systemsUnload goods, using appropriate equipment when necessary, ensuring proper loading techniquesKeep accurate logs of hours worked, cargo, and deliveries, and ensure compliance with all legal regulations, including safety, weight limits, and hours-of-service regulations.Adhere to all safety procedures and protocols, including the use of seat belts, safety equipment, and defensive driving practicesReport any accidents or unsafe driving conditions immediatelyCommunicate with customers as needed to provide updates, address concerns, and ensure satisfaction with deliveries.Stay in regular communication with dispatchers to provide status updates and report any delays or issuesAbility to meet deadlines and plan schedules effectivelyStrong communication skills for interacting with customers and resolving issues professionallyOften works independently, with limited supervision, but must maintain regular communication with dispatch and managementFamiliarity with highway systems and regional geography for efficient route planningAbility to maintain accurate records and ensure cargo is transported safelyAbility to handle unforeseen issues such as road closures or mechanical problemsMaintain clean and safe driving record per DOT regulations for Class A CDL driverMaintain physical health requirements for Class A CDL licenseMust be able to comfortably sit for long periods of driving, up to 11 hrs per dayMust be able to grasp, lift, carry, and stack 75-poundsMust have full use of arms and legs to climb stairs and ladders to access all areas of truck, plant, and officesMust be able to read maps and plan multi-stop tripMust be able to perform all aspects of Class A CDL driver responsibilities as required by DOT regulationsMust hold a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)Must have a minimum of 1 year of commercial Interstate driving experienceA clean and safe driving record is requiredPrevious experience as a truck driver or commercial driver is preferred
