PeopleTec is currently seeking a Software Engineer - Journeyman to support our Huntsville, AL location.PeopleTec is seeking a motivated self-starter who is interested in joining an award-winning, employee-owned company and working with cutting edge products in the defense of the United States. The selected candidate will be a member of our dynamic Huntsville team and will work on projects in support of PeopleTec’s efforts in the development of the Joint Munitions Effectiveness Manual Weaponeering Software (JWS).Our team supports the Joint Technical Coordinating Group for Munitions Effectiveness (JTCG/ME) in its mission to provide a mechanism for inter-service efforts to improve the databases and analytical methodologies the Joint force uses to determine non-nuclear weapons effectiveness. JWS is a key component of this mission, as it is designed to support U.S. and allied military planners in selecting the most effective munitions and delivery tactics to achieve specific target effects. Its primary purpose is to provide a standardized, scientifically-based tool for weaponeering — the process of matching weapons to targets to produce a desired level of damage or effect.The successful candidate will be an adaptable, experienced, and agile software engineer who is a consummate team player capable of spearheading the design and integration of software systems in support of DoD weapon systems. The candidate will work with the Product Manager, other developers, and engineers to define system requirements, create a compliant architecture, and integrate/develop software components. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, possess effective communication skills, and have skills and experience with a micro-service-based open systems architecture.Duties:Understanding and developing solutions to support emerging needs in a dynamic environmentPlanning, implementing, testing, documenting, and maintaining solutions for the integration and testing of productsMaintaining and evolving software architectures and external interfaces to expand capabilities of models and simulationsDeveloping SW tools to support company and Government projects, applying personal and team expertise in scientific, engineering, AI/ML, and Agile SW developmentUtilizing AI/ML tools to analyze data, identify patterns, and improve processes/trainingCollaborating with other developers to analyze, estimate, design, and implement featuresFacilitating cloud transition and maintenance by refactoring applications, implementing scalable architectures, and ensuring continuous integration, deployment, and monitoringCompleting and maintaining training courses as required by the contractSpecifying functional requirements, design computer simulations, client-server architectures, advanced networks/protocols, and databasesReviewing and developing technical specifications and standards, ensuring successful integration of subsystems into a microservice-oriented architecture frameworkIntegrating and modifying software components and ensure interfaces and languages are compatible with the overall architecturePlanning and creating new software modules to implement future capability enhancements as well as respond to changing customer requirementsDesigning and developing advanced networks and protocols, database management systems, and program in high order languagesPreparing and presenting briefings to internal and external teammates as well as customersApplying science and/or engineering techniques to develop economical solutions to technical problemsRequired Skills/Experience:Proficiency in common high-order programming languages such as C/C++, C#, and Python and the Windows and Linux operating systemsSkilled in API design, development, and integration for data exchange between systemsFamiliarity with frontend development languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript as well as frameworks such as React, Angular, or VueFamiliarity with problem solving and algorithms, object oriented programming, version control, and unit testingStrong troubleshooting and problem solving skills in the application of requirements analysis, design and development, unit testing, verification, integration, and reportingSound oral and written communication skills and the ability to clearly present and communicate technical approaches and findings to the team and the government customerExperience working in an integrated development environment and using tools like Git and Visual StudioProficiency in Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Project)Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, team environmentTravel: Up to 10%Must be a U.S. CitizenAn active DoD Secret clearance is required to perform this work. Candidates are required to have an active Secret clearance upon hire, and the ability to maintain this level of clearance during their employment.Education Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in science in software engineering or related field of study from an accredited college or university and 3 to 10 years of progressively complex experience in computer simulation, software, advanced networking techniques and protocols, data bases, high-order programming languages, and operating systems. A masters degree may substitute for 3 years of experienceDesired Skills:Seven (7) years’ experience developing software for DoD customersExperience with Development, Security and Operations (DevSecOps) development practicesExperience working a Government and/or DoD cloud environmentExperience with the Joint Munitions Effectiveness Manual (JMEM) Weaponeering Software (JWS)Experience with Endgame FrameworkFamiliarity with the Risk Management FrameworkEstimated Time to Hire:November 2025People First.
