WHO are we looking for?We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Software Engineeringto guide and grow a high-performing team of software engineers working on mission-critical applications. This role reports to the Chief Technology Officer and is pivotal in driving innovation, standardizing engineering practices, and delivering scalable, secure, and high-quality software solutions. You will work closely with the Quality Assurance Leader (also reporting to the Chief Technology Officer) to ensure seamless collaboration between development and quality assurance, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.Leadership & StrategyLead, mentor, and inspire a team of developers across multiple sprint teams, projects, and platformsCollaborate with the CTO and QA Leader to define and execute the engineering strategyChampion agile best practices, DevOps culture, and continuous deliveryBuild relationships with senior business leaders and serve on steering committeesAssist with vendor evaluations for future-state technology procurementSupport the CTO with M&A prospects, the Board, and regulators as necessaryTechnical OversightProvide architectural guidance and hands-on support across multiple technologies (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics CE / Power Platform, Azure cloud services, etc.)Partner with Product, QA, and Infrastructure teams to deliver high-impact solutionsGuide sprint planning, backlog grooming, and release management in an agile scrum environmentPromote cross-functional collaboration and shared accountability for outcomesEnsure solutions are scalable, secure, and maintainableInnovation & Continuous ImprovementIdentify and implement opportunities for automation, modernization, and process optimizationStay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to inform strategic decisions People Leadership & Staff DevelopmentEstablish and enforce development standards, design patterns, and technical best practicesFacilitate architectural discussions across teams, mediating design disagreements and guiding toward optimal solutionsRecognize and address performance challenges while empowering team members to succeedProvide coaching, mentorship, and performance management for managers and senior technical staffRecruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent, creating career paths that engage and motivate staffCollaboration & DeliveryAct as a trusted partner to business leaders, ensuring technology solutions align with strategic objectivesServe as a liaison between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders, translating business needs into actionable technology strategies and removing barriers to timely deliveryPromote a culture of learning, innovation, and professional growth within the teamMinimum Qualifications:10+ years in software development, with 5+ years in leadership or managerial roleProven experience in enterprise application development, preferably in regulated industries, financial services preferredKnowledge of secure software development practicesTechnical SkillsStrong expertise in Microsoft Dynamics CE / Power Platform and AzureProficiency in the .NET framework, C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, MVC, Python, AI-coding platforms such as GitHub Copilot, source control (ADO/Git), and CI/CD (ADO pipelines/Terraform)Proficiency in SQL, stored procedures, relational database architecture, and API development and managementDesired Qualifications/Skills:Excellent people management, coaching, and team-building skillsStrong communication and stakeholder management abilitiesExperience in financial services / capital marketsWHAT can you expect from your career at CAPTRUST?Our colleagues, like our clients, tend to stay with CAPTRUST for years.
