Job Description

Serve as principal financial consultant to the Chief Business Officer (CBO). Responsible for overseeing and conducting complex accounting and finance functions for the LBJ School of Public Affairs. Collaborate with Directors, Assistant Directors, faculty, and staff supervisors in strategic planning and fiscal short-term and long-term goal setting, including those to meet both academic and production goals. Develop Deans Office annual operating budget, including endowments and instructional funding.Work with CBO and provide expertise for the fiscal forecasting process. Prepare the five-year simulation template and supporting work papers (budget, actuals, transfers, positions) to assess the overall financial health of the school, units, and centers. Manage financial processes in the school to ensure timely and accurate processing of all requests and compliance with all university and school business policies and procedures. Initiate reconciliation process and monthly expense account certification. Manage year-end closeout and roll-forward activities. Manage the budget variance and exception report month and forecast for subsequent budget planning. Assist with developing and monitoring other school business policies, processes, and procedures in accordance with University requirements.Review and evaluate school, unit, and center activities and implement changes to improve and maintain the effectiveness of operations in relation to financial activities. Establish and maintain financial procedures, reporting, account structure, and approval framework for the school. Develop procedures for collecting, analyzing, and reporting financial accounting data. Prepare ad-hoc financial reports as needed by the Deans Office, area heads, and supervisors.Supervise Finance Office staff, including hiring, training, and evaluating Administrative Manager and Senior Grants Specialist. Advise financial staff regarding administrative policy and procedures and provide support in areas such as grants, purchasing, travel documents, deposits, tuition, and Option III Programs.Execute funding allocations for all center personnel, including appointments, scholarships, fellowships, tuition, fees, and related funding. Serve as contact for tuition bills and supplemental funding requests. Collaborate with associated offices to troubleshoot and solve related issues.Serve as backup to the Chief Business Office and members of the Business Affairs team. Other duties as assigned.
