Requisition ID: 177213 Job Level: Mid Level Home District/Group: Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers Department: Design Engineering Market: Marine Employment Type: Full Time Position Overview Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering has an opening for a dynamic Experienced Naval Architect/Engineer in our Construction Engineering Services (CES) Group, to support our fleet of over 55 large construction vessels. The ideal candidate will be a part of a growing team that supports all aspects of the construction process by performing innovative design engineering through brainstorming conceptual designs, performing and/or reviewing structural calculations, developing plans, scheduling tasks to meet client needs, as well as mitigating risk to keep our construction crews safe. Kiewit has the premier marine construction fleet in North America and intends to keep it that way through the modernization of our existing vessels, and construction of new vessels. This is an opportunity to be a major part of that effort, working directly with the construction teams. Our Construction Engineering Services (CES) Group consists of innovative design engineers whose expertise in designing and building temporary structures adds value to the success of our clientsu2019 projects. Additionally, CES provides on-site engineering and coordination support through leading and collaborating with Kiewitu2019s construction teams. Our CES group supports design-build tasks that include: Bridge erection & demolition, Cofferdam design, Critical crane lifts, Erection sequencing & staged construction analysis, Hoisting and jacking, Deep foundations and dewatering, Excavation support, Marine engineering, Pile drive analysis, Ductwork analysis, Falsework design, Temporary bridge & trestle, mooring and berthing facility design, CES estimate support, Working surface design, marine fleet & equipment maintenance and modernization, and On-site engineering support. Location This position is based out of our New York City offices, with travel to our Cranford, NJ marine yard. Responsibilities u2022 Perform design reviews and evaluate constructability. Independently performs work that requires conventional engineering but may also perform more complex engineering work with higher-level technical supervision. Conduct technical evaluations of structural analysis and load calculations to ensure sound design and compliance meeting requirements. u2022 Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope. u2022 Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements. u2022 Design and prepare engineering reports and related documentation, and devise charts and graphs to record results. u2022 Utilize computers, including the Microsoft Office Suite for reviewing and compiling information for data entry and transferring files and electronic/digital scans. Experience in maintaining, organizing, tracking the status, and prioritizing engineering documents (both physical and electronic records). u2022 Resolve technical issues and manage information generated through the design and construction phases of multiple and concurrent projects. Work requires a broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and a good knowledge of and practices of related specialties carried out by others. u2022 Work closely with junior and senior engineers to create vessel and vessel system designs and research compliance specifications and technical design issues, including, but not limited to, shipu2019s structures, hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, stability, and seakeeping, to report findings and to recommend possible solutions. u2022 Interface with classification societies and USCG to attain and maintain class and load line certificates for various types of barges and other vessels in the marine construction fleet. u2022 Manage weight control during vessel modifications and perform deadweight surveys and inclining experiments when required u2022 Survey existing vessels to determine scope of repair and maintenance activities u2022 Perform and/or oversee vessel hull structure design for hull repair, modification, new or increased equipment loading, and new construction u2022 Analyze vessel stability for cargo, construction machinery loading, and crane operations; develop load capacity charts for derrick barge cranes and mobile cranes on barges u2022 Provide engineering support for hull outfitting and marine equipment, including cranes and other material handling equipment, winches, mooring systems, electrical and hydraulic powering systems, piping and ventilation, etc. Qualifications u2022 Bacheloru2019s degree in Naval Architecture or related field is required. u2022 Marine background and experience is required. u2022 Professional Engineer licensure or eligibility within the United States u2022 8+ years of marine/naval engineering experience preferred. u2022 Ability to analyze and interpret hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, system control logic, and other technical drawings, industry journals, documents & regulations such as ABS, Lloyds, DNV, USCG etc. u2022 Experience working directly with Class and USCG to ensure vessel compliance with regulatory requirements u2022 Knowledge and aptitude for structural, mechanical and electrical products in marine systems is required. u2022 Strong all-around academic knowledge of structural engineering u2022 Experience with engineering design software will be an advantage; this includes AutoCAD, BlueBeam, MathCAD, Navisworks, RISA-3D, MOSES, etc. u2022 Experience working in a team setting u2022 Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with individuals at all levels of the organization u2022 Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment u2022 Ability to organize and handle multiple project assignments u2022 Ability to travel/TDY assignments and/or relocate based on business needs u2022 Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments. #LI-TSCOTT Other Requirements: u2022 Regular, reliable attendance u2022 Work productively and meet deadlines timely u2022 Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment u2022 Perform work safely and effectively.
