One California The Nuclear Medicine Specialist performs invivo studies and therapeutic and diagnostic imaging procedures according to written or transcribed verbal orders of a physician within the scope of his/her certification according to established standards and practices under the direction of the Imaging Services Supervisor, manager, and Radiology Medical Director. Demonstrates competency for neonate, infant, toddler, pre-school, school age, adolescent, adult, and late adulthood patients. Primary responsibility resides in the daily and comprehensive operations of a single-technologist department. Administrative tasks assigned this position include, but are not limited to, participation in CQI activities, Radiation Safety Committee, limited staff evaluation process, policy and procedure updates, various report development. Other duties assigned/approved by the Imaging Supervisor, Manager, and Medical Director. Education and ExperiencePreferred/DesiredMinimum of four years experience as certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist preferred.LicensureMinimum RequiredCurrent California State certification in all categories of Nuclear Medicine technology (board license).Current certification in Nuclear Medicine technology in one or more of the following national certification boards:Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB)American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)Basic Life Support through American Heart Association (BLS)Ability to:Minimize radiation exposure to patients, self and othersPerform general and specialized nuclear medicine procedures which meet the department's standard of qualityUtilize Universal Precautions as an approach to infection controlRecognize and respond to allergic reactions and other life-threatening patient conditions which might arise during the examination processAct courteously and with tact in dealing with patients, visitors and the publicMaintain confidentiality of patient records and informationCoordinate the department quality control programDevelop and maintain a cooperative working relationship with physicians and hospital personnelWork effectively to adjust priorities as circumstances require with frequent interruptionsOrganize work assignments, maintaining accurate and complete recordsMaintain a high degree of accuracy in procedural detail and required recordsWork independently on-call covering all normal clerical and technical functionsEffectively and empathetically deal with agitated, ill, and distressed patientsServe as a technical resource and coordinator for equipment service and maintenanceOversee additional staff and effectively deal with operational contingenciesUse procedural and operating supply sources to maintain adequate supplies within budget expectationsAssist supervisor in department budget preparationObjectively analyze the work of others as well as budget/productivity reportsKnowledge of:Anatomy and physiology for medical imaging including cross-sectional relationshipsMedical terminology as it pertains to Nuclear MedicineInfection control guidelinesPrinciples of operation and care for nuclear medicine equipmentCurrently accepted diagnostic, therapeutic, and in-vivo nuclear medicine proceduresRadiation safety requirements for operator, patients and visitors, and staffFilm processing systemsMechanical and electrical safety practices and requirements in the patient care environmentPreparation, use, and hazards of diagnostic contrast materials
