DescriptionA Brief OverviewA Sonographer (Ultrasound Tech) is a diagnostic medical professional whom provides diagnostic medical ultrasound exams consistent with their education and training, and in accordance with facility policies and procedures and applicable professional standards. The Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, maintaining patient workflow, technical aspects of equipment maintenance, and quality assessment (QA). The Sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self motivated to increase their level of understanding and knowledge of the field, pathologically process and advancements in ultrasound technology.What You Will DoValidate patient order and review relevant prior imagingPrepare exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct ultrasound exams in accordance with infectious disease, sterilization, patient safety protocols, policies, and proceduresConsistently follow hospital policy to correctly identify patients and communicate and explain exam in a manner appropriate to the patient's ability to understandPerform ultrasound examination in accordance with departmental protocols while utilizing critical thinking skills and independent judgment to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological and clinical conditions are accurately capturedCompleted structured reporting document, identify exam limitations, assure images are uploaded to PACS and review exam with radiologist as neededPerform, follow protocol, and maintain competency for High Level Disinfection proceduresProvide age-specific care to patients from neonates through geriatricsMaintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with privacy laws ( HIPAA) and adhere to hospital policiesEstablish and maintain collaborative working relationships with co-workers, administrators, and members of the health care teamMaintain required credentials and licensesFollow proper procedure to report equipment failuresAdhere to hospital safety and regulatory( DNV, ODH, ect) standardsAdditional ResponsibilitiesFollow Radiology communication planCompleting annual training before deadline as required by hospital leadershipMust demonstrate the ability to work independentlyPerforms other duties as plies with all policies and standards.For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients.
