JOB REQUIREMENTS: Description: Service Technician - Level 1 is anentry-level position. Most new hires for this position have little or noutility experience. The first year is mostly training with our in-housetechnical trainers and experienced coworkers. It generally takes oneyear of training before a new employee is qualified to work alone or tobe scheduled to work the Sunday or night rotation. General Purpose ofWork: Under direct supervision and at the direction of Meter andConnection supervision or the Distribution Operator on duty,investigates, makes safe, or makes repairs to the gas and electricdistribution system as detailed in General Duties. Provides support andemergency response for Gas and Electric Operations activities. GeneralDuties: Investigates reports of gas odor and possible carbon monoxide.Repairs above-grade gas leaks on Company and customer equipment andpiping. Installs, exchanges, locks, unlocks, and removes all types ofrigid-hung gas meters and single-phase electric meters. Assists with theinstallation of large-volume meters and specified regulation. Tests,replaces, and maintains gas service regulators and reliefs. Performsleak surveys. Installs and removes gas pipe and fittings oncustomer-owned piping systems. Stores and maintains meters, tools, andrepair parts on a Company vehicle. Properly completes written records ina neat and thorough manner. Utilizes tools such as gas leak and carbonmonoxide detection instruments, voltmeters, gas pressure gauges, pipecutters, stocks and dies, power vises, and various manual and electrichand tools. Performs meter inventory and pipe inventory as requested.Performs other incidental and related duties as assigned.Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent with demonstratedmechanical and electrical aptitude. Must have and keep a valid Wisconsindriver's license. Must be neat in appearance and have acustomer-friendly demeanor. Must have the manual dexterity to performthis type of work. Must have a basic understanding of the mechanical andelectrical principles and safe installation and operation ofresidential, commercial, and industrial gas and electric equipment. Mustbe able to detect the presence of odorant readily at 0.5 percent gasusing an odorometer. Must be able to occasionally lift 70 pounds tochest height and be able to routinely lift 50 pounds. Must be able towork outdoors in all weather conditions, on uneven surface or ground,and indoors in poor lighting conditions. Must be able to make multipletrips up and down stairs or ladders in performance of job duties. Mustbe reasonably available for overtime and emergency work assignments.Knowledge and Skills to Be Acquired. Must have or acquire the operatorqualifications necessary to perform the covered tasks...
