JOB REQUIREMENTS: Feed, water, and examine pets and other nonfarmanimals for signs of illness, disease, or injury in laboratories andanimal hospitals and clinics. Clean and disinfect cages and work areas,and sterilize laboratory and surgical equipment. May provide routinepost-operative care, administer medication orally or topically, orprepare samples for laboratory examination under the supervision ofveterinary or laboratory animal technologists or technicians,veterinarians, or scientists. What will you be doing: This entry levelrole requires no experience, just an interest in working with small andlarge animals in a laboratory setting. Maintaining the highest standardsof animal care and welfare in accordance with the Association forAssessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International(AAALAC) Performing daily cleaning, feeding of our laboratory animalsProviding environmental and dietary enrichment Learning and applyingproper handling and restraint techniques Working in a fast paced, teamenvironment Experience No experience required Must be 18 years or olderPrepare feed for animals according to specific instructions, such asdiet lists or schedules. Prepare examination or treatment rooms bystocking them with appropriate supplies. Educate or advise clients onanimal health care, nutrition, or behavior problems. Prepare surgicalequipment and pass instruments or materials to veterinarians duringsurgical procedures. Provide emergency first aid to sick or injuredanimals. Record information relating to animal genealogy, feedingschedules, appearance, behavior, or breeding. Clean, maintain, andsterilize instruments or equipment. Perform office reception duties,such as scheduling appointments or helping customers. Collect laboratoryspecimens, such as blood, urine, or feces, for testing. Administermedication, immunizations, or blood plasma to animals as prescribed byveterinarians. Assist veterinarians in examining animals to determinethe nature of illnesses or injuries. Perform routine laboratory tests ordiagnostic tests, such as taking or developing x-rays. Examine animalsto detect behavioral changes or clinical symptoms that could indicateillness or injury. Clean and maintain kennels, animal holding areas,examination or operating rooms, or animal loading or unloadingfacilities to control the spread of disease. Fill medicationprescriptions. Monitor animals recovering from surgery and notifyveterinarians of any unusual changes or symptoms. Hold or restrainanimals during veterinary procedures.
