The program has a strong commitment to partnering withcommunities to ensure that representative and high-risk populations arerepresented in research. The research nurse practitioner (NP) has anintegral role within the ADRC and serves as a clinical expert within aresearch team. The research nurse practitioner assists PrincipalInvestigators (PIs) and Clinical Research Coordinators (CRCs) with theoperations of clinical research studies, under the guidelines ofresearch protocols and UW Madison policies. The research nursepractitioner operates within a larger team and often works closely withscientists, program managers, participant recruitment specialists,schedulers, study coordinators and students across the ADRC and otherAD-related programs. The NP will perform physical and neurologicalexams; perform lumbar punctures; interpret research blood test results,cognitive testing results and electrocardiograms; evaluate seriousadverse events; maintain participant records; participate in diagnosticconsensus case conferences; provide on-call and back-up support toinvestigators as requested; provide advice to participants regardingtheir health concerns, with special attention to creating a culturallysafe environment for the participant; assess decision making capacity;and return research results back to participants including biomarkerresults. The NP will work chiefly at University Hospital but may work atcommunity sites in Madison and perform duties such as participating inblood draws, and travel between sites to perform physical and...
