Description The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position to begin on September 1, 2026. This search will give preference to mathematicians whose work connects to the research interests of the current faculty while also expanding the overall research profile of the department. Some example areas of interest include ergodic theory, geometric group theory, model theory, percolation & statistical mechanics, and topology. Familiarity or expertise in formalization and computer-aided reasoning in mathematics is an added plus. Exceptional candidates in all areas will also be considered. In general, preference will be given to candidates who have shown outstanding promise and/or excellent research accomplishments and are pursuing a vigorous research program. The promise of excellent ability to teach and mentor students of a broad range of backgrounds is a strong plus. Qualifications A Ph.D. in Mathematics or a closely related discipline is required. This position is intended at the rank of assistant or associate professor; exceptional candidates of any rank may be considered.
