No County Albany Street Address State Street and Washington Ave City Albany State NY Zip Code 12210 Duties Description The New York State Senate is seeking applicants to fill the position of Associate Counsel for the Senate Majority Counsel and Program Office. The position of Associate Counsel is responsible for performing the following duties:u2022Providing legal, policy and budget analysis, and central staff support, for the Senate Majority Conference on matters referred to one or several other committees. Particular emphasis will be placed on knowledge and experience within the health and mental health policy field;u2022Tracking related legislation active in the state Senate and Assembly;u2022Making oral presentations regarding relevant bills under consideration by the state Legislature;u2022Drafting memoranda analyzing policy initiatives and state legislation;u2022Preparing briefing materials in their respective standing committees for members of the Conference;u2022Assisting Senators in preparation for public hearings, roundtable discussions, forums and other public meetings and events; andu2022Meeting with relevant advocacy and constituency groups. Minimum Qualifications To move forward, you must have:u2022A bacheloru2019s degreeu2022Strong writing and oratory skillsAll candidates are expected to live and work in the Capital Region of New York. Preference will be given for candidates with demonstrated legislative experience.Candidates who possess a Juris Doctor, or candidates possessing similar relevant experience and/or educational achievement may be alternatively considered for the title of Associate Counsel on a case-by-case basis.
