As a Research Scientist I, you will independently conduct datacuration including data acquisition and analysis for research projectswhose focus is to provide comprehensive disease, clinical andphysiological data to diverse research communities. Extract relevantinformation from published journal articles, research laboratories, anddatabases. Integrate this information with existing data. Developcontent for web-based clinical and research resources. Facilitates datatransfer by interacting with research laboratories and staff from otherdatabases. Work with the bioinformatics team to develop data analysistools, data pipelines, and database and web interface design.Responsibilities: Performs data acquisition and analysis, includingidentifying relevant sources of information, extracting clinical,disease, physiological and genetic information from text sources such aspublished literature and clinical records as well as web-based and othersources. Develops content for web-based research resources. Assists increating data standards through the development and implementation ofvocabularies and ontologies. Works with programmers and other curatorsto develop new and update existing data analysis tools, database design,and web interfaces. Assists in creating workshops, presentations, andeducational materials. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge -Skills - Abilities Extensive knowledge of biological sciences andexcellent oral and written communication skills in English; strongcritical thinking, independent problem solving and attentiveness todetail are required. Exhibit competence with MS Office software,familiarity with the use of public sequence, model organism, or diseasedatabases, as well as familiarity with standardized vocabularies andontologies. General understanding of databases and manipulation of datais desirable for success in this role. Enthusiastic, highly motivated,and have strong interpersonal communication skills.
