Youth Development TeacherWorks directly with youth in a Licensed before and after-school setting at local elementary school site. As part of a team, they impact youth’s lives by helping youth learn, grow, and develop. By exemplifying and teaching skills through both formal and informal lessons, in a safe and supportive environment, the Youth Development Teacher leads youth in becoming great citizens. Under the supervision of the Site Supervisor, the Youth Development Teacher leads the program management and supervision of a group of children 5-12 years of age, along with the planning, implementation, and facilitation of activities and events for participants.For more on Y Employee Perks, click on this link: Employee Benefits | YMCA of San Diego County (ymcasd.org)ScheduleMonday to Thursday: 1:45pm - 6:00pmFriday: 12:45pm - 6:00pmImplement age-appropriate program activities that engage students in active and meaningful experiences and in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA of San Diego County Actively supervise program participants, ensuring their guidance and safety at all times Communicate in a timely, positive and professional manner with all participants, families, school and district personnel, and community partners Collaborate with school personnel and program partners to align high quality academic activities and coordinate student services Provide positive behavior guidance that supports the developmental, social-emotional, and physical needs of all students Ensure that program meets the requirements of the YMCA of San Diego CountyPerform daily duties that ensure space is properly maintained, organized, clean, and safe Follow emergency procedures appropriately to ensure the safety of the participants and staff Provide leadership to all assigned YMCA Youth Development AideMust be highly dependable and have the ability to be flexible with change within a daily scheduleVisual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act in an emergency situationPhysical ability to lead sports, games and curriculum activities, monitor youth behavior, and perform general housekeeping responsibilitiesMust be 18 years of age or older and a high school graduate. Completion, with passing grades, of 12 units in Child Development (CD) or related field. (Related fields can include: Arts, Early Childhood Education, Education, Humanities, Physical Education, Psychology, Recreation, Sociology, and Theater)Completion, with passing grades, of 6 units with 6 more units of current enrollment in Child Development or related field will be considered. Minimum of 6 months working in a child and youth development, education, or comparable setting preferred Basic computer skills and ability to speak, read, and write the English language. Additional languages are highly desirable Must have a sincere interest in working with children 5-12 years of age and the ability to relate to children and adults in a professional mannerCriminal record clearance in accordance with YMCA and Community Care Licensing guidelines. Successfully pass a physical exam and provide negative TB test results within 7 days of hire. (TB test results need to be current within 1 year.)Must provide proof of measles (MMR), pertussis (TDap), and influenza immunizations within 7 days of hire. (TDap needs to be current within 10 years, MMR does not need to be renewed.) Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire, unless specified otherwise on contract, and must be from one of the following:American Red CrossAmerican Heart AssociationAmerican Safety & Health InstituteYMCA will consider qualified applicants with a criminal history pursuant to the San Diego County Fair Chance Ordinance and the California Fair Chance Act. You do not need to disclose your criminal history or participate in a background check until a conditional job offer is made to you.
