Sr. Manager/Director of Payroll

Description PLEASE CONTACT CHRISTINA TRAN AT ROBERT HALF FOR MORE INFORMATION PAYROLL DIRECTOR - Hybrid position, 2 days onsite Newly created Payroll Director position to lead the payroll department. Working closely with the CFO and HR Manager, this position will ensure accurate payroll processing, compliance with multi-state wage and hour laws, and seamless collaboration with internal teams such as finance and human resources. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in payroll systems, audit practices, and continuous process improvements to support the organizationu2019s mission. Responsibilities: u2022 Manage and supervise a payroll team responsible for processing semi-monthly payroll for over 1,000 employees. u2022 Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax and employment regulations, including wage and hour laws. u2022 Conduct internal audits of payroll processes, tax filings, and accruals to maintain accuracy and compliance. u2022 Oversee fiscal, governmental, workers' compensation, and benefits audits related to payroll. u2022 Develop and update standard operating procedures for payroll operations. u2022 Collaborate with leadership and staff to provide consultative support and ensure payroll practices align with organizational goals. u2022 Approve final payroll deliverables and provide backup payroll processing as needed. u2022 Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance payroll systems and processes. u2022 Train and mentor payroll team members to support their growth and development. u2022 Partner on system implementations and upgrades to ensure functionality meets organizational needs. Requirements u2022 Bacheloru2019s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; Certified Payroll certification highly preferred. u2022 At least five years of experience managing payroll in a high-volume, audit-focused environment. u2022 Advanced knowledge of California and multi-state wage and hour laws affecting payroll processes. u2022 Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and enterprise-level payroll systems such as ADP Workforce Now or UKG Pro. u2022 Previous experience with payroll system implementations is highly advantageous. u2022 Strong communication skills to effectively coach and train team members and stakeholders. u2022 Proven ability to drive change and implement continuous improvement initiatives. u2022 Demonstrated expertise in handling sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
