Position Summary: The Surgical Technician Lead will be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide assistance during surgical procedures performed in the department. The Surgery Technician Lead is experienced in all aspects of aseptic technique, setting up the required equipment and sterile supplies as needed for their assigned cases, pulling cases as needed, and breaking down cases at the end of the procedure. He/she is knowledgeable regarding instrumentation, equipment and supply needs for all types of surgical procedures. The Surgery Technician Lead performs delegated duties consistent with his/her scope of practice and functions within the philosophy and overall plan of care delivery. The Surgical Technician Lead may rotate to areas other than his/her assigned service area/s, and will perform only those duties for which he/she has demonstrated competency. The Surgical Technician Lead has additional responsibilities of orienting/onboarding new employees and overseeing shift operations with schedules, assignments and coordination of resources. Position Requirements 1. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current BLS Certification required. Registration as a Surgical Tech by Colorado Division of Registration (DORA) required. Current CST Certification from NBSTSA required 1. Education: Graduation from an accredited program for Operating Room Technicians. 1. Experience: Two years of experience as a Surgery Technician. 1. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Advanced knowledge in the scrub role and demonstrated proficiency in multiple service lines/specialties. Expert specialized skills in at least one service line. Demonstrates leadership qualities. Displays appropriate judgement and problem solving skills. Demonstrates good organizational skills. Communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers. Is authorized to handle medications, syringes, needles, etc. and is accountable to the registered nurse for oversight of this practice. Demonstrated competence with patient care information systems including Meditech, and Microsoft Office programs. Ability to educate staff using adult learning principles.
