In the role ofa Research scientist Iyou will beworking in our Cancer Center. SummaryThis position is in the Translational Metabolomics-Preclinical ImagingShared Resource. This position involves imaging mice, rats and othersmall animal models with multimodal imaging. The modalities availableinclude 2D and 3D optical bioluminescence, fluorescence, radio/chemiluminescence, X-ray micro-computed tomography, and nuclear molecularimaging with Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) andPositron Emission Tomography(PET). The research scientist will trainother investigators, supervise and independently perform studies theabove listed modalities to advance the goals of the principalinvestigator's research projects. This includes performing experiments,processing and analyzing data, compiling results and monitoring qualitycontrol processes to ensure integrity of research. PrimaryResponsibilities Train users in specific research protocols; developtraining materials. Assist users in learning 2D and 3D image processing,analysis and visualization software for handling optical, X-ray CT,nuclear molecular imaging, and multimodality image fusion. Maintainequipment, including operating and monitoring the cardio-respiratorygating and anesthesia systems and scheduling maintenance as needed.Ensures that the system hardware and software are functioning properly.Supervise and maintain the laser safety, radiation safety, and biosafetyprotocols for safe and appropriate use of optical, X-ray, and nuclearmolecular imaging scanners. Train users and conduct optical imaging aswell as ionizing radiation based functional and molecular imagingprocedures with targeted gamma radiation and positron emitting isotopes.Design and execute complex research procedures. Develop and performroutine and complex protocols for research programs. Coordinate researchstudy activities; lead and manage projects. Assist in developing,implementing and monitoring quality activities. Collaborate withprinciple investigators in determining study design and performingstatistical analyses. Perform and develop protocols for imaging datastorage, dissemination, and archiving. Develop new methodologies for labprocedures. Maintain supplies, may negotiate with vendors, trackpurchase orders.
