The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.JOB SUMMARYWe are seeking a talented and experienced post award accounting and compliance manager to join our Research Office team and play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective management and compliance of the university’s grant and gift funds as well as overall financial reporting.The Post Award Accounting Compliance & Financial Manager ensures adherence to sponsor requirements and university policies, supports financial administration and sponsored program financial management. This position provides oversight, monitoring, and education on compliance for sponsored research to faculty and staff at the University, including developing systems and processes for monitoring and reporting. This role serves a critical function in ensuring that the implementation of restricted gifts and grants do not create exposure to compliance risks. This position supervises the Post Award Financial Accountant and works closely with Sponsored Programs, the Controller’s Office, the Institutional Review Board, and other offices on campus that are part of the research administration ecosystem. Remote work must be conducted in the State of Minnesota.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSCompliance OversightDevelop and implement compliance programs for sponsored researchMonitor adherence to federal regulations, sponsor requirements, and university policiesIdentify potential compliance risks and implement preventive measuresStay current on regulatory changes, assess their impact and update processes accordinglyLead efforts to ensure compliance for sponsored researchCertification of Time and EffortOversee the university's effort reporting processReview and verify effort certifications for accuracy and complianceProcess payroll allocations for sponsored projectsMaintain documentation of certified effort reportsEnsure compliance with federal effort reporting requirementsAward Management, Financial Reporting, and BillingReview award documents for compliance requirementsImplement appropriate controls based on sponsor guidelinesMonitor award terms and conditions for compliance issuesSupervise and direct the Post Award Financial Accountant on award setup and managementEnsure proper documentation of award modificationsReview financial reports for compliance with sponsor requirementsEnsure proper cost allocation and allowabilityVerify that supporting documentation meets compliance standardsAdvise and instruct the Post Award Financial Accountant on complex billing issuesMaintain access to various federal, state, and private foundation reporting systems and stay up to date with changes and system requirementsCollaborate effectively with program managers, grant principal investigators, the office of sponsored programs, and other relevant departments to provide financial guidance and support and facilitate smooth grant managementWork with other Research Office staff to develop and maintain post-award policies/procedures as needed to ensure compliance with grant regulations and organizational policiesOther DutiesPerform special projects as assigned by the Director of ResearchSupervise Post Award Post Award Financial Accountant (Accountant II)Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degreeFive years of professional experience in accounting, finance, or research administration or compliance rolesAn equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may be substituted.Preferred QualificationsPrior supervisory experienceExperience in fund accountingWorking with sponsored projectsExcellent customer service skillsHOW TO APPLYAll interested candidates must apply online at https://www.stthomas.edu/jobs/.
