Caregivers in Euclid Hospital’s ED provide care to all patient populations and work collaboratively to make each patient’s visit as comfortable and stress-free as possible. Euclid Hospital’s ED is focused on employee engagement, teamwork and caregiver collaboration. From the unit-based ED Council which guides clinical practice to the hospital-based Shared Governance teams that implement the latest evidence and innovation to the enterprise-wide education and training options, the opportunities for growth and development are endless.Paramedics provide emergency treatment, including advanced life support, to patients in emergencies. The Paramedic's role is to assess the urgent medical needs of patients and stabilize their conditions. Paramedics are the most highly trained emergency medical responders.A caregiver in this position works evenings from 3:00 p.m. - 3:30 a.m. with weekend and holiday requirements.A caregiver who excels in this role will:Provide duties that assist in providing patient care in the Emergency Department under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.Obtain and record vital signs.Perform EKGs, CPR, phlebotomy and oral, nasal and ET itiate cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy and saline locks.Notify the RN and/or physician of rhythm changes.Apply orthopaedic appliances and simple splints.Size crutches and teach crutch walking.Assist with equipment setup, chest tubes, gastric lavage, LP, etc.Assist with restraint and seclusion of patients and apply restraint devices.Transport patients and specimens.Assist with sterile procedures and cleaning and maintaining supplies and equipment.Maintain confidentiality and respect patient privacy.Perform fluid/drug administration.Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:Completion of an accredited EMS-Paramedic training programCurrent licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP) in OhioBasic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire or within one year of start date in the Emergency DepartmentClinical experience through an EMS Paramedic training programPreferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:International Trauma Life Support (ITLS)One year of experience as an EMT-PExperience in a hospital setting or city ambulanceOur caregivers continue to create the best outcomes for our patients across each of our facilities.
