Software Development Director

Job Description Manage a team that designs, develops, troubleshoots and operates tier 0 cloud services. Primary area of focus will be networking software such as DNS, Firewall, Load Balancers, etc. Responsibilities As a director of the software engineering division, you will be the service owner for customer facing cloud services as well as virtual networking infrastructure components. You will apply your extensive knowledge of networking and distributed systems to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing distributed network services You will apply your operational experience to operate tier 0 cloud services under strict SLOs. Interact with product teams to come up with product roadmaps and define the customer experience. Assists in the development of short, medium, and long term plans to achieve strategic objectives. Regularly interacts across functional areas with senior management or executives to ensure unit objectives are met. Ability to influence thinking or gain acceptance of others in sensitive situations. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of product development. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience. We are looking for an energetic, engaged, and technically strong Director of Software Development to lead the engineering teams for development of one of these functions and/or services. You will lead the engineering team, work with architects to identify and deliver new features, operate the service at massive scale, and drive the entire product lifecycle ranging from conceptualization -> product -> design -> development -> launch -> operational maturity, and the ultimate success and adoption of the product. You should be a distributed systems and networking generalist, able to architect broad systems interactions. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn. + Candidate will be responsible for providing leadership, direction, and strategy. + Establishing and developing the organization to meet and execute on strategy. + Working with geographically distributed teams and contributing to the success of his/her and other related teams. + Recruit and continue to build out a capable and cohesive engineering team. + Delivering large scale project on-time with high quality. Qualifications + 10+ years experience delivering and operating large scale, highly available distributed systems. + 7+ years experience in people management. Preferably managing managers. + Demonstrable success mentoring and growing junior engineers to senior levels. + Demonstrable leadership and people management skills. + Excellent verbal and written skills. + Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems fundamentals. + Working familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP) and standard network architectures. + Experience building multi-tenant, virtualized infrastructure is a strong plus. + Prior experience with either AWS, Azure or GCP is a plus. + BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area.
