Nelnetu2019s Cybersecurity Log Operations Engineers operate as a shared service across multiple business lines representing a hybridized attack surface covering on premise and cloud-based elements. It is imperative that our engineers understand the business needs and be able to coordinate those with the organizationu2019s security and operational goals. This position requires work in support of the Companyu2019s contract with the United States Department of Education (u201cEDu201d). As such, the United States Government requires that any applicant for this position must complete the United States Government security clearance. Effective June 1, 2018, ED has informed Nelnet that security clearance applications for foreign nationals are not being accepted or processed. Considering this direction from ED, Nelnet will be unable to hire applicants without United States citizenship for such positions. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: u2022 Is a self-starter and can consistently produce outstanding results with minimal supervision. u2022 Has exceptional troubleshooting skills and is detail oriented. u2022 Monitors and works with logs in Google SecOps and Google Cloud Observability. u2022 Works closely with system owners to manage alert and security use case creation as well as operational alerting in the Cloud Observability projects. u2022 Work closely with infrastructure teams and business units on tuning data streams for both security and business applications. u2022 Collaborates on IT projects to ensure that security issues are addressed throughout the organization. u2022 Tunes alerts and use cases over the Use Case Management Life Cycle. u2022 Tunes alerts and alerting in GCP Projects utilizing Big Query, Log Analytics or Log Explorer tools. u2022 Participates in department-wide change control and IT governance processes, on behalf of the Nelnet Cyber Security Group (CSG). u2022 Learn and use Cribl or complementary data stream management tool that is used to manage ingest costs and control quality of data stream to appropriate end points. u2022 Stays up to date on the latest global vulnerability landscape and published compliance guidelines. u2022 Responds to audit findings, directing remediation, tracking progress, providing status reporting, and creating/maintaining evidence documentation. u2022 Develops and maintains documentation for security related systems. u2022 Is flexible and nimble in a fast-paced environment. u2022 Maintains a positive, customer centric attitude. EDUCATION: Bacheloru2019s degree in cybersecurity, computer science, systems administration, information systems, or related areas. Related work experience may be substituted for this requirement. EXPERIENCE: 4+ years IT operations experience working with SIEM products and threat detection. 4+ years IT experience implementing and supporting cybersecurity technologies, such as: u2022 SIEM: Google SecOps experience preferred. u2022 SOAR: Google SecOps experience preferred. u2022 Database Monitoring. u2022 Threat detection mechanisms. u2022 Alarming/Alerting mechanisms. u2022 Hands on experience with SIEM, SOAR, and Database Monitoring products. u2022 Hands on experience with a data stream management tool like Cribl or similar technology. u2022 Experience with PowerShell, Python, BASH, Chef or Ansible a plus.
