Job Description

The Network Cable Technician will support the installation and maintenance of network cabling infrastructure, including both copper and fiber optic systems.InstallationInstall equipment enclosures, patch panels, and equipment (e.g., LAN/SAN, servers, storage, UPS) as directedInstall grounding cables for equipment enclosures, equipment, and cable traysInstall cable trays, J-hooks, raised floor cable trays, and related accessoriesInstall intra-building backbone cablingInstall horizontal cablingInstall work area outlets, faceplates, jacks, and patch cablesRemove kick-plates and pedestals on cubicles to install network cablingOrganize, form, and dress cablesTerminationTerminate Category 3, 5e, 6, and 6a UTP cables on patch panels and modular plugsTerminate 62.5-micron multimode, 50-micron multimode, and single-mode fiber using ST, SC, and LC connectors (anaerobic adhesive system or Corning UniCam system)Troubleshooting & MaintenanceDiagnose and correct copper and fiber optic cable issuesReplace failed equipment and install new equipment as directedComplete work orders and network trouble ticketsGroom network enclosures and equipment as directedInventory material as directedDocumentation & TestingPerform certification testing of UTP cables (Category 3, 5e, 6, and 6a), fiber (multimode and single-mode), and coaxial cablesDocument test results as requiredLabel and document network equipment, cable paths, rooms, and cabinetsMaintain configuration/control records for copper and fiber patch panels and cable locations​​5+ years’ experience in cabling or network technician work​Qualified to install, terminate, and conduct certification testing of Category 3, 5e, 6, and 6a unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable, multimode and single-mode fiber cable​Knowledge in the application of the following structured cable standards and codes: ​ANSI/TIA/EIA 568-B ​ANSI/TIA/EIA 569 ​ANSI/TIA/EIA 606 ​ANSI/TIA/EIA 607 ​NFPA 70 ​Proficient with Fluke DSX-8000 copper/fiber tester ​Proficient with Fluke OFP-100-QI OptiFiber Pro Optical Time Domain Reflectometer​Writing and speaking clearly and concisely about technical topics​​Active Secret or L security clearanceEducation and Experience• High School Diploma + 8 years• Associate's Degree + 6 years• Bachelor's Degree + 4 years• Master's Degree + 2 yearsPreferred QualificationsActive Top Secret or Q security clearanceFounded in 1987, IMG is a leading small business that exemplifies competence, integrity and follow-through.
