Location: Albany, NY Category: Civil Service Posted On: Tue Sep 30 2025 Job Description: Vacancy #: WF250503 Apply by: October 16, 2025 Title: Supervising Janitor (NY HELPS) Location: Custodial Services (Facilities Management) Salary: $47,695 Grade: CSEA SG-11 Hours: 10:00pm-6:30am Sunday - Thursday (Pass Days Friday / Saturday) Duration: Contingent Permanent Job Requirements: This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified. NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (NY HELPS): Two years of satisfactory full-time experience in the custodial care or cleaning of buildings, offices, or institutional residences of which one year of the experience must have been at a supervisory level. COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (NON-NY HELPS): Candidates must have a reachable score on the Supervising Janitor Exam List OR Be a current NYS employee and have a current permanent appointment with 1 year of service as a Supervising Janitor, or in a title eligible to transfer to Supervising Janitor OR Be a former NYS employee eligible for reinstatement to the title of Supervising Janitor May be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment.
