Laboratory Technician - Chicago Job ID #: 31294 Location: IL-CHICAGO Functional Area: Science Position Type: Full Time Experience Required: 1 - 3 Years Relocation Provided: No Education Required: High School Diploma RC/Department: 6464 -MWREG CHICAGO TERMINAL :KMLQT Position Description Primary purpose: Provide product quality control through sampling and analytical testing the various commodities stored at a terminal facility. Essential duties and responsibilities: u2022 Perform control charting and equipment calibration as required. u2022 Customer reporting including analysis feedback reporting (SAP systems) u2022 Manage sample retain and retention program. u2022 Customer Quality Log development, record control and maintenance. u2022 Generate Certificate of Analysis (COA) documents. u2022 Research/create testing programs for new products. u2022 Perform routine cleaning/maintenance/repair on all lab equipment. u2022 Order lab equipment and supplies as needed. u2022 Coverage for other terminal lab technicians and personnel as necessary. u2022 Other duties as assigned. Position Requirements Educational Requirements: u2022 GED, high school diploma or college degree will be considered for this position u2022 1 to 3 years of terminal experience required and some lab experience preferred Job Requirements: u2022 Minimum three (3) years of work experience in the petrochemical industry or a refinery and one (1) to three (3) years of hands-on field experience sampling storage tanks and testing collected samples with automated lab equipment is required u2022 Good interpersonal skills with ability to communicate across all levels of the organization are essential u2022 At least 1 or more years of experience performing and detailed knowledge of quantitative and qualitative analysis methodology u2022 High level of concentration and very detail-oriented u2022 Familiarity with OSHA, DOT, industrial hygiene and other industry regulations a major plus u2022 Experience with handling hazardous liquid chemicals u2022 Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs, including Word and Excel u2022 Must have good customer service skills u2022 Superior work ethic and dependability u2022 Excellent mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, fractions, multiplication, and percentages) are required u2022 Must be able to withstand extreme weather conditions as outside work is mandatory year round u2022 Physical requirements include, but may not be limited to, walking up and down stairs/ladders, negotiating uneven surfaces, and carry up to 50 pounds u2022 Must be able to wear standard PPE (hard hat, goggles, rain gear, steel toe boots), and qualify to wear a full-face respirator u2022 Mandatory drug screening in addition to passing a background check necessary for hire u2022 Perform testing of customer commodities in accordance with approved methods utilizing laboratory testing apparatus or equipment and ASTM standards u2022 Perform preventive maintenance of all laboratory equipment including prescribed standardization and calibration checks and adjustments u2022 Determine and monitor line displacements and product cuts to ensure that product integrity is maintained in accordance with regulatory guidelines and product specifications u2022 Obtain and test tank, line and pipeline samples in accordance with standard operating procedures u2022 Interact with field operations and control room personnel to report testing results to assure quality control of customer commodities u2022 Prepare and issue accurate laboratory reports and logs as required by customers and management u2022 Maintain accurate database records utilizing standard computer software applications u2022 Willingness and ability to work 12-hour rotating shift and overtime as required, including holidays, nights and weekends u2022 Shift schedule could change due to work load or more staffing u2022 Willingness and ability to be on call to cover vacations, sick leave, short or long term, and any emergencies that might arise u2022 Job requires working at other locations on weekends and night shifts u2022 Assist outside inspection companies on where to obtain pipeline samples and escort them throughout the facilities u2022 Assist customer representatives in order to have a double verification to ensure quality of their product Compensation: $30-35 Job level and pay commensurate with experience and skill set.
