Job Description

Community Support SpecialistThe Community Support Specialist helps individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities achieve their goals and enhances their quality of life by providing individualized, community-based services that promote independence, inclusion, and overall well-being. This looks like supporting daily living activities, building social and life skills, and facilitating meaningful engagement in community settings. The lists below are a summary of duties and not a comprehensive job description. Job DutiesImplement individualized service plans while keeping track of progress according to agency standardsSupport individuals' skill development towards independence, including cooking, budgeting, and communicationTransport clients safely to appointments, community activities, employment, and other essential destinationsMonitor client safety and respond appropriately in emergenciesEstablish professional, positive, and supportive relationships with individuals, families, and community partnersProvide respectful and safe daily support to clients in residential settingsQualifications, knowledge, and skillsHigh school completion or equivalentValid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and consistent, regular access to a safe, reliable, insured vehicleStrong communication skillsPositive regard for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities, autism, and co-occurring mental health or substance use disordersTeam player with a collaborative approachAbility to maintain a calm demeanor and utilize de-escalation skills Working conditionsRequires working in a variety of locations including program spaces, residential environments, and in the communityRequires working with clients who may have difficult behaviorsTransporting clients by car is required.Work hours include evening and weekend shifts as needed to meet staffing requirementsCompensation and benefitsThis full-time position starts at $18.87/hr and includes comprehensive benefits including paid time off, employer-sponsored health, dental, life, and disability insurances; a 403(b) retirement plan with generous employer match; and educational benefits such as tuition reimbursement and student loan repayment.
