Lifeguard

The Lifeguard creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Maintains active surveillance of the pool areaKnows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and proceduresResponds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely mannerKnows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic areaRemains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by othersMaintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department codePerforms equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as neededChecks the pool for hazardous conditions when arrivingPerforms chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate actionIs committed to maintaining a workplace free from all forms of harassmentAdheres to policies related to boundaries with youthAttends required abuse risk management trainingAdheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youthReports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violationsFollows mandated abuse reporting requirementsMinimum age of 15 with a support lifeguardCertifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aidCurrent YMCA Lifeguard or equivalentChild abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire dateAbility to maintain certification-level physical and mental readinessMust demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standardsIs committed to maintaining a workplace free from all forms of harassmentAdheres to policies related to boundaries with youthAttends required abuse risk management trainingAdheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youthReports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violationsFollows mandated abuse reporting requirementsWORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
