TREATMENT SUPERINTENDENT Print ( Apply ufeff TREATMENT SUPERINTENDENT Salary $102,025.82 - $141,588.90 Annually Location Ohio 45202, OH Job Type Full-time Unclassified Job Number 25-02122 Department Water Works Opening Date 10/07/2025 Closing Date 10/21/2025 11:59 PM Eastern + Description + Benefits + Questions General Statement of Duties The Treatment Superintendent within the Water Quality Division of the Greater Cincinnati Water Works is responsible for overseeing all day-to-day operations of the division. This role requires a Class IV Water Treatment Plant Operator License issued by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA). This position serves as the divisionu2019s representative in departmental leadership meetings and also represents the City in matters related to drinking water quality, regulatory compliance, and water treatment or water quality research initiatives. The Water Quality Division is responsible for all drinking water treatment decisions for both of the Utilityu2019s treatment facilities, as well as for ensuring optimal water quality throughout the distribution system. The division also manages all aspects of regulatory compliance and reporting and associated operating and capital budgets. In addition, the division operates a certified drinking water treatment laboratory, for which the Superintendent holds ultimate management responsibility. The position is also expected to actively pursue and participate in state and national research projects related to drinking water quality and treatment. This employee manages, supervises, assigns, reviews, and participates in the work of staff responsible for water or wastewater treatment activities. Employee ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures and performs the more technical and complex tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. Performs related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications (KSAs) (Illustrative only. Knowledge of: Principles and policies of water or wastewater treatment programs and services. Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation. Modern and complex principles and practices of management. Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations. Computer operations in performance of job duties. Environmental laws and regulations. Health impacts of water quality contaminants. Physical, chemical, and microbiological aspects of water treatment and quality. Skill to: Operate appropriate computer equipment; use properly all related hardware and software. Operate assigned vehicle in the course of duty. Ability to: Implement and maintain positive employee relations. Promote and maintain highest integrity throughout all personnel. Analyze and manage effective EEO/AA programs. Supervise, organize and review the work of lower-level staff. Select, supervise, train and evaluate staff. Compile and evaluate pertinent information for producing activity and management reports. Evaluate financial management controls for division; recommend improvements as needed. Interpret and explain City policies and procedures. Prepare clear and concise reports. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Communicate effectively at all levels, both internally and externally, to obtain/provide information. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with City and County officials, the general public, etc. Required Education and Experience Each applicant must have six years experience in the field of wastewater/ water treatment, with at least three years of high level supervisory experience plus a Bachelor's Degree in biology, chemistry, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university. A Master's Degree is preferred. OTHER REQUIREMENTS Must have a valid Driver's License. Must be an excellent communicator and team builder. Possession of, or ability to obtain, appropriate certification in water or wastewater treatment from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. MILITARY EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE EVALUATION Military education and experience may be substituted for college level course work at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case by case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations. Working and Physical Conditions Environmental Conditions: Office environment and treatment plant environment; requires working with water and chemicals related to water treatment processes; movement on slippery surfaces; automobile travel within the City required. Physical Conditions: Duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing and walking for prolonged periods of time; general manual dexterity required; must be able to operate assigned vehicle.
