Reference #: 2023745Carnegie Mellon University's Facilities Management & Campus Services department is searching for a Shuttle/Escort Driver to join the team This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives in an exciting and challenging work this role, you will be responsible for operating shuttle buses and multi-passenger vans on both predetermined routes making stops at designated locations and on call-out to student residences within an approximate one and one-half mile radius of campus, or between any university buildings, including university off-campus housing.Core responsibilities include:Safety and security of passengers by immediately reporting any criminal or suspicious activity, including any incidents when passenger(s) create a disturbance, pose a threat to others, and request medical assistance for ill or injured passengersReporting hazardous road conditions and any traffic citations, violations, or incidentsSafely operating escort bus or other assigned vehicle while on duty, including conducting a visual and physical inspection of the assigned vehicle before, during, and at the end of the shift.Refueling and cleaning the interior of the vehicle as needed, and immediately report any maintenance problems or concernsFollowing all required traffic laws as contained in Title 18, The PA Vehicle Code, and all Federal DOT regulations and requirements for CDL operatorsMaintaining constant direct contact with and follow all instructions and directions from the Transportation ManagerFollowing all established routes, and staying in sync with all established department guidelines, rules, and protocolsAdaptability, excellence, and passion are vital qualities within Carnegie Mellon University. We are looking for someone who shares our values and who will support the mission of the university through their work.You should demonstrate:Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with a diverse campus community.Strong attention to detail and ability to keep and maintain accurate and detailed reports and records.Excellent verbal communication skillsAbility to understand and follow motor vehicle/traffic laws while maintaining a safe and secure environment within the vehicleWillingness to work evening hours and shift workStrong interpersonal skills and ability to perform clearly defined tasks with minimal directionStrong reasoning and problem-solving skills to build positive relationshipsProficient computer and analytical skills.Qualifications:High School Diploma or GED1-3 years of previous driving experienceValid PA Driver's LicenseCommercial Driver's License (CDL) w/ Passenger Endorsement (Class A or B with passenger endorsement and without air brake restriction and current medical card)Valid DOT Medical CertificateRequirements:Successful Background CheckPre-Employment Drug and Alcohol Screen- subject to post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty testing, and follow-up testing as necessaryPA Child Protection Clearances (Act 153)Fitness for duty assessment and pre-employment medical examDriver history check, including record of violations and crashesMust register and provide electronic consent to initial full query with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse resulting in no prohibitions.Consent to yearly FMCSA Clearinghouse and driver Motor Vehicle Record queriesAdditional Information:Sponsorship : Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States.
