Riverside Healthcare is seeking a skilled and dedicated Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) to join our team in Kankakee, Illinois. As a CCMA, you will play a crucial role in patient care by supporting healthcare providers during examinations and treatments, administering vaccines, and conducting various medical procedures. This position also involves performing essential administrative tasks such as scheduling, managing electronic health records, and handling patient inquiries and demonstrates flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure. The successful candidate will be adaptable, proficient in clinical procedures, and committed to providing exceptional patient care in a dynamic healthcare environment.Essential DutiesPatient Care:Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare them for consultations with healthcare providers.Assist in patient examinations, procedures, and treatments, ensuring comfort and safety.Obtain and accurately record vital signs, medical history, and chief complaints.Perform basic medical procedures such as phlebotomy, EKG, wound care, and administering specific injections under supervision.Administer vaccines as requested by the provider.Perform pulmonary function tests, electrocardiograms, pulse oximetry, and nebulizer treatments as instructed.Clinical Assistance:Prepare and sterilize medical instruments and equipment for procedures.Assist in minor surgical procedures and examinations, maintaining a sterile environment.Conduct laboratory tests such as urinalysis, blood glucose, and rapid strep tests.Manage inventory and ensure adequate stock of medical supplies and medications.Administrative Support:Schedule patient appointments, tests, and procedures, and coordinate referrals as needed.Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic health records (EHR), ensuring compliance with confidentiality regulations.Handle patient inquiries, telephone calls, and messages promptly and courteously.Verify insurance coverage, collect co-payments, and process billing and coding accurately.Quality Assurance and Compliance:Adhere to established clinical protocols, infection control measures, and safety standards.Participate in quality improvement initiatives and assist in maintaining accreditation standards.Stay updated with industry regulations, guidelines, and best practices through continuing education.Non-essential DutiesAssist with the training and orientation of new staff members.Participate in departmental meetings and special projects as assigned.Support the healthcare team in additional tasks as needed to ensure smooth clinic operationsRequired ExperienceAt least 2 years of experience in a social services role, preferably in a healthcare setting.Preferred ExperienceProficiency in medical terminology, clinical procedures, and basic pharmacology.Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare team members.Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and medical billing software preferred.Willingness to adapt to changing healthcare policies, procedures, and technologiesExperience with patient advocacy, resource coordination, and crisis intervention is highly desirable.Required Licensure/EducationCompletion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification required.High School Diploma or equivalent required.Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; CPR certification may be required.Employee Health RequirementsExposure/Sensory Requirements Exposure to:Chemicals: Refer to MSDS sheetsVideo Display Terminals: AverageBlood and Body Fluids: Very High-giving blood products, administering medications both IV and IM, open wounds and drains, urine or feces dueto incontinent patients.TB or Airborne Pathogens: Possible exposure to undiagnosed or untreated TB patients, from general contact.
