No County Nassau Street Address Hempstead Lake State Park City West Hempstead State NY Zip Code 11552 Duties Description Come build your future with the State of New York Under the supervision of the higher-level personnel, the Trades Generalist will be assigned to Regional Maintenance and will perform journey-level work in carpentry, as well as skilled and semi-skilled tasks in other trades. Duties will include, but are not limited to:u2022 Perform routine, journey-level carpentry tasks, including framing, finish work, drywall installation, roofing, masonry, window and door installation, and additional construction activities.u2022 Supervise, train, and monitor the daily carpentry activities of permanent and seasonal staff, ensuring tasks are completed according to safety policies, building codes, and procedures.u2022 Plan and lay out work, including preparing materials lists, placing orders, and ensuring compliance with New York State purchasing guidelines.u2022 Read and interpret blueprints.u2022 Craft and assemble wooden structures, furniture, and fixtures.u2022 Utilize and perform routine preventative maintenance on hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.u2022 Operate park machinery, including but not limited to: planers, band saws, sanders, and vertical routers.u2022 Inspect, clean, prep, stain, stack, and transport new and old lumber.u2022 Build and install furniture, cabinets, signs, and frames and mass produce items such as tables, benches, and bench slats.u2022 Drains, winterizes, and recharges the park water system seasonally.u2022 Diagnose and repair boiler, heating, ventilation system operations, broken pumps, pipes and fixtures, clearing blockages, installing new components, and expanding or modifying existing systems.u2022 Lay out, assemble, and inspect scaffolding.u2022 Follow building codes and regulations.u2022 Maintain material trackers, daily activity reports, facility and equipment inspection reports, and other required records.u2022 Assist in emergency response functions as assigned.u2022 Adheres to the agencyu2019s Code of Conduct Policy and ensure compliance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures in the performance of daily tasks.Although the work is periodically inspected by the supervisor, the incumbent is expected to work with considerable independence as is typical of a journey level craftsperson. Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. If verifiable, we will accept and prorate part-time and volunteer experience. Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:u2022 Must have the ability to operate a chainsaw and complete Game of Logging level 1, 2, and 3 or equivalent training within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
