This position will play a key role in identifying, inspecting, and evaluating trees and brush along utility lines and submitting inspection results to clients with recommendations. This position plans, directs, and coordinates the activities of assigned tree clearance crews. This position requires a love of working outside, excellent attention to detail, and exceptional interpersonal communications skills.What You'll DoVegetation Inspecting & ManagementIdentify and inspect local trees with an understanding of growth ratesMap circuits using client continuity listsPatrol and investigate distribution and/or transmission circuits and prescribed work to be performed by client tree trimming contractorsEnter tree trimming/tree and brush removal prescription into hand-held computer or other similar systems, and uses computers and associated software to perform dutiesNotify property owners of tree trimming/tree and brush removal work to be performed relating to client specificationsManage the issuance of work and track work progressPerform outage investigations, when necessaryDiscusses and negotiate line-clearance crew access issuesPerform herbicide auditsAssist with storm restoration effortsWork directly with Utility's management teamOversee/direct entire ACRT field team including Supervisor'sUnderstand clients needs and be able to solve problems as neededCommunicate weekly/daily with Operations ManagerHelp ACRT continue to grow on the contractTree Trimming AssessmentsAudit tree trimming and tree removal work completed by the tree trimming contractor in the field to ensure compliance with work request forms and approved tree trimmingDetermine when the next tree trimming is requiredComplete post audit forms indicating adequacy of the tree trimming and tree removal work, and forward the completed forms to the vegetation management program manager or coordinatorBuild/maintain strong relationships with local tree vendorsMaintain State, Local, & Organizational ComplianceObtain permits from public agencies and documents workComply with all regulatory requirements and client vegetation management standardsAs requested by the Operations Manager, perform all necessary duties for emergency response in accordance with all safety requirements, law and regulations, and applicable labor agreementsAdhere to all attendance and work hour requirementsConduct work in a safety-conscious manner as not to endanger themselves or othersWear safety-related equipment such as hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses, etcKnow and exemplify ACRT's Guiding PrinciplesPositively Build Upon New & Existing RelationshipsServe as a liaison between clients, tree crews, and client customersDisplay optimism about the work to be done and demonstrate a positive attitude towards customers, peers, and the companyMaintain working relationships with local client personnel as well as all relevant federal, state and local governmental agenciesMay be required to participate in public presentations and meetings Other duties as assigned.About YouMust haves:Education: Bachelor's degree in forestry or related field. Can substitute 10 years of related UVM job experienceExperience: 4 years of experience in forestry or a related field. This experience should include fieldwork, data collection and analysis and project management.ISA Arborist certificationKnowledge of regional forests and ecosystems, including knowledge of tree species, forest management practices and environmental regulations specific to the region.Nice to haves:ISA Utility Specialist certification, ISA Municipal Specialist certification, Board Certified Master Arborist and/or Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ).1 year experience performing UVM work on the Xcel system.Your Skills:Ability to learn and use company or job-specific software systemsProficiency with Microsoft Office [Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook] or similar software suiteAbility to identify local trees and knowledge of growth ratesAbility to work in rugged terrain and inclement weatherAbility to read and follow mapsAbility to drive and operate a 4x4 vehicleSelf-starter with excellent interpersonal skills, ability to multi-task, and work independently and as a teamExcellent communication skills, comfortable interacting with senior management, customers, and clientsDemonstrated critical thinking skills and ability to exercise good judgement to make good business decisionsKnowledge of vegetation management and herbicide use is a plusKnowledge of electric utility facilities and hardware is a plusThis role would not be a good fit if:You do not enjoy working independently or working outdoorsAre not comfortable driving a pickup truck or 4x4 off-road vehicleYou do not have the ability to calmly communicate with customer conflictsEmployee TrainingAll employees are required to take an online safe driver course and safety training.Drug/Alcohol Testing:Drug/alcohol testing is requiredWhere We WorkEmployees will take their company provided vehicle to where they need to report for the day. Actual salaries will vary within the range based on various factors including, but not limited to, location, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, performance, operational needs and other considerations permitted by law.
