The Role Lumen is seeking a forward-thinking Summer Intern to join its AI Governance team and help shape the future of responsible AI. This role offers hands-on experience in implementing enterprise-wide AI governance strategies aligned with the NIST AI Risk Management Framework and ISO 42001 standards. The intern will support efforts to evaluate AI systems for fairness, transparency, and accountability, refine governance policies, and translate complex regulations into operational practices. The Main Responsibilities u00b7 Support the implementation of Lumenu2019s AI governance strategy in accordance with the NIST AI RMF and ISO 42001 standards. u00b7 Assist in evaluating existing AI systems for fairness, transparency, and accountability. u00b7 Help refine AI governance policies, standards, and procedures. u00b7 Translate legislative and regulatory requirements into actionable operational guidelines. u00b7 Assist in identifying and documenting AI-specific risks and controls throughout the development lifecycle to comply with the identified requirements. u00b7 Research emerging AI policy trends and regulations like the EU AI Act, White House Executive Orders, and various state-level initiatives, and synthesize key implications for the AI Governance team. u00b7 Execute initiatives to promote AI governance awareness across technical and legal teams. u00b7 Collaborate with data privacy and security teams to ensure AI systems meet legal and internal standards, and improve the security review process for AI projects by boosting efficiency and teamwork.. u00b7 Focus on the identification, classification, and mitigation of algorithmic and infrastructure security risks across the AI portfolio, ensuring alignment with enterprise-wide security frameworks. u00b7 Work with other teams on MLOps and LLMOps to apply Security-by-Design in the AI pipeline, and oversee security and model/data drift issues found during ongoing monitoring of Lumen's AI projects. What We Look For in a Candidate Program eligibility is contingent on the candidateu2019s commitment of the entire 10-week program. No exceptions will be made Required qualification + Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university, rising senior level education status at the start of the internship. + Graduating August 2026 u2013 May 2028 + Preferred fields include bur not limited to: u00b7 Preferred fields include but not limited to: Bacheloru2019s or Masteru2019s degree in Computer Science, Public Policy, Data Science, Law, Ethics, or a related field. + Intern must be able to work 40 hours per week during the 10-week program (June 1 u2013 August 6, 2065) Proficiency and understanding of: u00b7 Strong interest in AI lifecycle, NIST AI Risk Management Framework (RMF), AI ethics, and regulatory trends and proposals, and their application to enterprise AI Governance. u00b7 Common security risks specific to AI/ML and emerging AI technologies (e.g., adversarial attacks, model exfiltration, poisoning and supply chain vulnerabilities). u00b7 Fundamentals of risk assessment and control documentation as they relate to technical AI systems and regulatory compliance. u00b7 Excellent communication and analytical skills. u00b7 Familiarity with AI/ML concepts, MLOps, or LLMOps is a plus. u00b7 Experience or coursework with data science and basic coding concepts to facilitate communications with technical teams. u00b7 Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams. Work Setting Intern must be able to work 30-40 hours be week during the 10-week program (June u2013 August)Intern must have reliable transportation to/from work location (Lumen does not provide transportation to/from Lumen office locations)US Citizenship required Compensation Internship compensation ranges depend on each individualu2019s level of education, geographic location, and experience/qualifications aligned to the role.
