JointheUniversity of Chicago Medicineas anAdvanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant)in the Neurology Intensive Care Unit.As theInpatient Neurology ICU Advanced Practice Provider (APP) you will manage our general neurology and consultative neurology patients, and leverage knowledge ofcritical neurological conditionsto care for the adult patient population.The ideal candidate will have critical care, general medicine and/or neurology clinical experience that can be leveraged to care for a diverse patient population and the full range of neurological disorders. As a member of the Neurology-Critical Care team, the neurology APP will manage critical care patients in the dedicated Neuro-ICU as well as respond to consultation requests from emergency services, inpatient units, and all other critical care areas throughout the hospital. Attending physicians hold frequent rounds and are always available to discuss cases and treat patients. Radiology, pathology, and case conferences complement direct patient care.Our Neurology ICU clinical team has expertise in the management of many neurological disorders, including:Brain and spinal cord injuriesBrain infections (encephalitis and meningitis)Brain swellingBrain TumorsNerve and muscle problems that affect breathing, such as myasthenia gravis and Guillain-Barré syndromeStatus epilepticusStrokeAny catastrophic disorder affecting neurologic functionNurse Practitioner Job Summary:The Nurse Practitioner is an advance practice nurse responsible for comprehensive direct patient care management. The Nurse Practitioner manages a caseload of patients and exercises autonomous decision making in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of delegated medical treatments. The scope of practice also includes family support, teaching, staff education, consultation, and research.Nurse Practitioner - Education and Experience Requirements:Licensed Registered nurse in the state of IllinoisCurrent APN licenseAdult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner degree requiredICU or Neurology experience highly preferredPhysician Assistant Job Summary:The Physician Assistant is qualified by academic and clinical education to provide healthcare and patient services that may include educational, research, clinical nursing specialist support and administrative activities under the direction and supervision of the Director/leadership. The PA has acquired the knowledge, skills and judgment necessary to assist the physician through organized instruction and supervised practice. This licensed health professional will take patient histories, conduct examinations, diagnose illnesses, pre- and post-operative patient evaluation, order and interpret laboratory tests and assist during complicated operations.
