Lead Mechanical Design Engineer

Description We are in need of bringing on a Lead Mechanical Engineer who will be responsible for owning mechanical design and delivery for rugged, outdoor imaging platforms (e.g., large-format motion systems and field-deployable camera units). Moving designs from concept u2192 prototype u2192 supplier handoff u2192 on-site assembly/validation. Architect and model mechanical subsystems and weatherable enclosures; produce build-ready drawings and BOMs. Choose components, source/new suppliers, drive DFM and design-for-serviceability. Build or direct rapid prototypes; perform quick u201csanity-checku201d analyses (heavy FEA not required). Coordinate cross-discipline integration (mounting, harness paths, thermal & access). Keep interns and day-to-day tasks moving when the manager is out; communicate status clearly. Limited field/onsite validation (mostly local; occasional short travel). Skills Design, Integration, cad design, hardware, leadership development, solidworks Top Skills Details Design,Integration,cad design,hardware,leadership development Additional Skills & Qualifications Work with engineering director to develop system-level mechanical architecture u25cf Design motion systems including servo motors, gearboxes, linear guides, and power transmission u25cf Create enclosure designs for harsh outdoor environments (waterproofing, corrosion resistance, thermal management) u25cf Specify custom cables and harnesses for environmental durability u25cf Source suppliers and conduct technical negotiations u25cf Coordinate with contract manufacturers and implement DFM improvements u25cf Produce manufacturing drawings with proper GD&T u25cf Provide prototyping support and assist with on-site system deployment u25cf Help establish and improve development workflows and processes u25cf Collaborate across engineering disciplines to ensure seamless system integration Expert-level 3D CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, Onshape, or equivalent) u25cf Strong understanding of CAD assembly management best practices and PDM/PLM workflows u25cf Experience creating manufacturing drawings with proper tolerancing and GD&T u25cf Hands-on experience with motion systems: motors, gearboxes, bearings, linear actuators u25cf Experience in ruggedized/outdoor equipment design u25cf Proven supplier and contract manufacturer management experience u25cf Solid understanding of machine shop fundamentals and fabrication processes u25cf Strong problem-solving and analytical skills u25cf Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration u25cf Comfortable with hands-on prototyping and debugging Strongly Preferred Experience (need depth in at least 2-3 areas): u25cf Hardware startup or fast-paced R&D environment experience u25cf Full product development ownership from concept to production u25cf Industrial automation or agricultural equipment u25cf Custom cable/harness specification and environmental sealing expertise u25cf High-volume DFM and design for serviceability u25cf Experience implementing or improving engineering workflows and best practices Experience Level Expert Level Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $80.00/hr.
