Summary This position is located within the Lee County VA Healthcare System within the Pharmacy Service. This position provides support to all pharmacy operations in a variety of settings. This Includes patient care activities in the main outpatient dispensing pharmacy, phone center, outpatient clinic, administration area, or other area as assigned by the supervisor. The position includes independent judgment and team assignments as they relate to pharmacy services and the care of the Veteran. Responsibilities VA Careers - Pharmacy: Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The duties of the Certified Pharmacy Technician include, but are not limited to the following: Outpatient Pharmacy Assembles prescriptions properly with the correct drug, strength, quantity, auxiliary labels, and prescription labels. for window dispensing and mail delivery. Assures that the correct medication is filled by using bar code scanning on stock bottles. Supports automation by manually completing prescriptions not processed through the automation dispensing machine. Verifies the patient's identification following the Medical Center's policies (i.e., double patient identifiers). Utilizes VA software programs to check narratives and problem solve deliveries for patients with no physical address. Assists the Hometown Pharmacist with the CMOP reject reports. Monitors MEDS ON ADMISSION and DISCHARGE MEDICATIONS. If the patient is still in the hospital or released, incumbent will arrange for medications to be mailed or destroyed based on CPRS notes and guidance from a pharmacist. Packages prescriptions appropriately, as to assure that packages are not damaged within transit (i.e., bubble wrap, ice blocks, insulated containers, etc.) Performs searches, updates patient information, and generates shipping reports as requested by the supervisor. Calls patients to arrange delivery of refrigerated prescriptions and verifies patients address. Inpatient Pharmacy Sterile Product Compounding. Follow USP 797/800 Guidelines for the compounding of all sterile preparations, including ophthalmic, cardioplegic, TPN, hazardous, large & small volume IV solutions, PCAs, etc. Manufactures uncomplicated and/or complicated parenteral admixtures to be delivered in the form of large volume, small volume, infusion syringe or other as required. Uses pharmacy automation such as AutoMed Fast Pack, Euclid, and Pyxis to support unit dose medication dispensing. Dispenses unit dose medication to patient's medication cassette or other patient medication storage system(s) used within the medical center. Applies knowledge of the pharmacy VISTA unit dose package to generate pick lists used to fill patient cassettes. Replenishes ward stock and completes monthly inspections. Restocks crash carts and anesthesia carts as needed. Prepares IV admixtures assigned, to include large volume parenteral and
