Job Title: Mechanic Division: EquipmentLocation: LaytonJob Summary: Under supervision from the shop foreman, a mechanic is responsible for repairs, servicing and maintaining equipment and machinery in an efficient and safe manner.Duties and Responsibilities: Repairs and preventative maintenance on trucks and heavy equipment such as loaders, rollers, paving equipment, mixer trucks,etc...Assist in the maintenance shops as needed.Perform inspections and preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment.Prepare and maintain records and reports.Maintain tools as required to do the job.Maintain insurable driving record.Ensure a safe and healthful work environment at all time.Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED.Enrollment in a Diesel Technician Program preferred (Applied Technology College, SLCC, UVU, etc.).Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Attention and commitment to safetyAbility to work well with others in a team environmentMust have vocational training in preventative maintenance, brake systems, and basic wiring.Must be able to work varying shifts and long hours.Ability to move 50 poundsPhysical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Sitting: 10% of time.Standing:60% - 70% of the time.Climbing:20%-30% of the time. This includes shop ladders, equipment access ladders, and climbing under equipment for maintenance.Driving:20%-30% of the time for roadcalls, andpulling equipment in and out of the shop.Weight Lifted:Must frequently be able to lift and carry up to 50-70 pounds. Heavy items may be required to beliftabove one's head and maneuvered while sitting,kneelingand laying down. For safety, assistance will be provided for heavy objects.Physical Movement: May frequently be required to walk and work over uneven ground, balance, stoop/crouch, kneel, grab, drag,climband hold objects.Working Conditions:70% of time will be spent working in the shop, and 30% will be field/ road call work.*Physical Demands /Safety are dependent on location of position.
